Bars in a sequence?

Just curious....

When you choppers build a sequence how many bars do rock?

I usually go for four, but what about you?

Who turns timing correct off?

Who uses drum loops? Who builds their own?

I work on 16bars and I am slowly learning to construct a decent beat

I have an autoload setup with 4 bar sequences
i play without the timing correction all the time, if its not good, ill overdub
only a few times i use a drumloop, filter it to get me some basssz

I useally loop the first bar and copy that to the remaining 3 bars and add some variations by hand in the seq edit
in the end if i have 2 decent 4 bar loops, i might merge them to an 8 bar loop and do some twists in the new seq. that way i have the original intact

That's me also. I make about 13 or more sequences for every song.
I chain them together in song mode and that's that.

That goes for my triton, mpc and asr10.

so I'll do like 2 or 3 chops on the loop (if I am using one)

I record into DP with DP and the MPC timing synced via MIDI. after I record vocals I can sequence the beat around the vocal.

though now I've been mostly sticking with 2 to 4 bar loops for the drums, then converting 16 bars into a sequence and layering the samples over the already made drums. Thats if I'm strictly using one shot drums. If its loops and chops that i'm messing with, it could be anything. Sometimes I mess around with 6 bar sequences...

i usually use 2 bar seq i do every thing on one seq them copy seq and track mute stuff on and off as i build in song mode.
i use timing some times mostly 16th but i use 8(3) to get tight baboom's

Question...

I usually switch up for every song, the no. of bars. Also, switch up for different genre's!

For instance, i started a Broken beat track yesterday & ended up programming a whole 16 bars as the loop.

For hip hop its mostly 4 or 8 bars. I usually print this to Pro Tools & do my sequence editing there but Am moving back to doing it in song mode with various sequences in the MPC 60!!!

Always good to here how others work & to be open minded!

Useful for when you want to record constant sounds over long sequences..I.E pad or chorded sounds.

I say useful as these sometimes can give audible clicks if are only recorded in short bar lengths & then copied over & over in your DAW!
