i mean, "tight" to you, could sound sh*tty to someone else so all i could say is keep flowers wit it till its tight.

for Kicks, snares and hats, if you're using the XL, try re-sampling...I normally go to 12 bit at 25000-30000 Hz at low quality...try that for starters...

Here are your main tools in recap:

eq
resampling to lower bit (or sonic decimator or sp1200 or recording onto tape, resampling)
layering-808s, samples, sines, etc.
sampling a good sound to begin with
filter
compressor
gating
mixing
groove (using good quantize/swing)
experiment
combinations of these
search function

now. Search for things like Compressing drums or quantize, layering kicks (basically try lots of combinations). Your gonna have to read a bunch of threads that might not answer your question, but you will find the answer! Read threads in all forums (not just production techniques).

I think your main tool would be to learn about eq and using the search function. Eqing is an art in itself and just saying "eq" wont help you. If your findings have to do with eq, but not drums particularly, still learn it, because alot of techniques for other instruments can be applied-its not like there is one univeral eq setting to make good drums or bass; this is why your question is too broad and poses a problem/crappy response..... it is difficult to give a specific answer or give 1 universal setting to make tight drums and bass.

BTW. This seems like an obvious answer to use the search function. However, No one-person is an expert. Dr.dre isnt your next door neihbor. ANd alot of times there are many differant ways to do things and differant opinions. Honestly your best bet is to search(because this topic has been asked before)........unless of course you have a more specific question that can directly be answered. Id say search, learn yourself, then filter the information.........use what you learned to ask a more specific question.

Everyone here is willing to help. But its hard to when its such a broad open ended topic.
