Im on OS 1.70

My sequence was playing, suddenly after 1 push on a button, the mpc starts to stutter ocuring clicks and pops. The screen flickers a few times and the time resolution went from 1/16 to 1/8t. I couldnt stop immediatly, the stop button only reacted after a few seconds! After that, anytime I played the sequence, the mpc reacts veeery slow and very slow screen redraws in multi/sample and programs pg while the seq was not playing. It looked much like a computer all of a sudden  .. Anyway I saved the project and rebooted the MPC and now when I load the folder containing that project, 9 programs are in bad format!

hahahaa  ....... :x seriously, since I had OS 1.71 on there, nothing is the same anymore :( .. Onlything I can think of is that OS 1.71 crashed my memory sticks somehow.

Is someone so kind to report this "bug" (if you can call this a bug  ) to the Akai mpc4000 mail adres? They wont respond to my mails.. :x
I hope that there will be an update very soon! Or I have to swop to an MV  (Just kidding ;) )

Man, you might wanna reload the os a second or third time or maybe open it up to check for loose connections Because the problems you discribe I have yet to have except for the "Fatal Error" Screen but that was back in the 1.50 Days and I only had it once then.

ai cr*p!
Here is the deal:
My sequence had too much data for the MPC to handle. If I ran sequence 3, in the end the beat was out of time and started to shuffles in a weird way. Other sequences (less cpu sensitive) were shuffled also sometimes in a random order. If the MPC cant handle such much data, it shuffles midi notes! If it was a cool sounding shuffle I would be pleased, so I would have a rare MPC4000 groove, but thats not the case as it shuffles awkward!
Anywho, I re-installed OS 1.70, swopped my memorysticks... Nothing helped! Untill I switched to OS 1.71. OS 1.71 CAN play back my sequences without auto shuffle!

It does make sence as OS 1.70 is the slowest of all OS´s!

I think the MPC4000 is tested by hip hop dudes who make easy constructed patterns. As soon as I make some groovy house sh*t with congas, rhodes, bass, synthline and drums and some other stuff, this hiphop machine stutters. (OS 1.70)

I am gonna zip my project and upload it somewhere today so you peeps can check the auto shuffle out for yourself. I really hope seq 3 stutters on all machines running OS 1.70!... Otherwise my MPC is broke :(

and i am pretty sure that i havent reached the 64 note limit!!!

Could it be a problem that some of my wavs are 44100, others are 48000, others are 22000 while another is 28000hz... All in the same project. Could this be a problem?

If I unlayer some sounds, the MPC stutters less. The more sounds I remove from a program, the smoother the sequencer runs..
I am talking about silly 150kb samples here!!
In total my project is about 40mb

Here is the project you guys have to test.
Press the orange button and download the zipped file. You need winrar to unpack. The file is called "Diff Loops.rar" After unpacking, drag the folder "Diff Loops" in the MPC´s memory.

www.wickedpeople.darwinist.nl (if you previously visited my homepage, hit F5 to refresh the page)

:!: Read this first! :
-> To hear the shuffling/stuttering you have to manualy assign "Drums002_035_KD" to Zone 2 on pad 1 from the "Drums" program. Once you´ve done that, play sequence 3 or 4 and hear the end of the sequence  Funny, isnt it? Is this where we paid over 2 grand for?? :x
To hear more shuffling, play sequence 5 (with the kick "Drums002_035_KD" still assigned to Zone 2, like mentioned before). Repeat the sequence 5 a few time (stop/play, stop/play) to hear the differences in midi timing!
Would be best that you listen through headphones while examinating my seq 3 and seq 5.
If you mute the Rhodes in seq 3 or 4, the auto shuffling is less.
Also watch the timeline on top in main moving... It stutters!! Its like a pc only worse!!

By downloading the rar file, youll get a free multi Rhodes (kinda ballads from NI elektrik) + all my waveforms, nicely looped  . But please do test seq 3, 4 and 5 for stuttering!!

Ow yeah, after the test, also mention wich OS you are running.

Thx a bunch. Peace 8)

it's the not the machine it's ikke,he's really MV8000 MAN and the mp knows it :D nah but seriously ikkey if you know anyone else locally that has an mp you might wanna load the song in their machine and see was up or check into that hard drive,or load o.s.1.60 and try it.if that don't work let me produce you 8)

Ikke. Your sequences play fine on my machine. One crazy thing happened when I tried to load them using aksys. I had a sequence loaded that I was working on. The Mp was on the global memory page since I had just clreared all unused samples and programs. After initiating the tansfer to memory, about 10 seconds into it, I got the black screen-o-death on the mp. Lost the last thing i recorded. After I rebooted, your files loaded without problems. I'm using 1.71

Honestly, these sequences would not even cause the mp to break a sweat. I've used the mp loaded with 32 programs, 40+ tracks, using mad control data never with a problem.

Nice use of velocity on your drum loops.
I'm gona cop your drum kit if you don't mind. If you got problem let me know and i'll erase it.

feel free to use them

so than my MPC is wack...? :?
I dont know anyone with a 4k tho :(
Shoot!
Anyone got some tips?
Maybe all my memory sticks are incompatible.. I could try without extra ram but then I cant load the project cause its like 40megs
The incompatible RAM does make sence.. I remember the first heavy project had some problems with samples that were modulated, those samples sometimes panned hard left and right with heavier sequence data involved. Guess I gotta find me a good RAM stick

hahaa  this came to my mind too
btw the HD cant be an issue cause the MPC does everything from its RAM, gladly .. Imagin it would stream from HD  ... it would be worser then the worst pc you had :P
