well, it all depends of your budget, type of recording. If you just want the sounds from your MPC in your computer and record voices, a small mixer will do the job.
If u want to use the software's mixer:
1- send each track separately, one by one, into your cmputer and then edit and mix it all from there.
2- get the 8 outputs and send 8 tracks at a time into your cmputer (u need a souncard with 8 inputs).
Just use the software mixer.
Mixing with a real mixer requires more gear like compressors and all that.
The computer will do the trick.
So... if you don't want to add voices/live guitars, you don't need a mixer. Just plug the MPC to your Computer In/Out.

ooh so the mixer would be for adding vocals to me MPC? thats good then if i wanted to record somes vocals who im working with what would be a decent mixer for this? (preferably a hardware mixer)

for example, this is needed when you want to sample a bass line. when recording the sound to the mpc, your mixer can eq the sound before sampling to get what frequency you want the most.
i use the old vintage 6-band eq 16 inch house mixers. sounds gritty and has that dirty low end theory.

behringer has some nice ones, pretty cheap. check the site. u know how much u can afford.
One thing u can do, since the software mixer gives u much more control (well, i use cubase SX) is to get an external USB soundcard. Edirol or M-audio. They have mic pre-amps with 48v phantom power ( for the condenser mics ). u plug everything to it, and when it comes to EQ, use the computer. External gear is expensive. That's my opinion.. =)
