syncing my mpc with my lx20dat recorder

I want to record multiple tracks (one at a time) from the MPC2000xl to a DAT multitrack. How do I sync the two so that each seperate track of the sequnce starts at the same point on the tape? In other words, how do I get the sequence to start and the tape to begin recording simultaneously?

There's SMPTE on the MPC2000xl & a nine pin jack on the back of the DAT (DB-9 connection). The ADAT model is Alesis LX20

Any advice would be extremely helful. Thanks

I find it hard to beleive that no one knows how to do this.
