need help with 3000 step editing!!

hi this is natural selection with another mpc 3000 problem....

i am getting nowhere with the step edit function and need some help (this 300 page manual isn't working for me)

i made a sequence with about 9 tracks (1st six tracks are drums/hi hats and the others are samples), i made a copy of this sequence using sequence edit and am trying to delete some of the sounds/drums/samples on the copy sequence in step edit......so when i'm scrolling through the 4/4 sequence (using arrow keys), how come i can't delete the sounds i'm trying to get rid of (like when i scroll to a snare i don't wanna hear, i can't erase it??)

also, is there a way to scroll through the sequence in step edit one track at a time (such as, scrolling through step edit and only examining the notes/sounds made on track 1, or track 2, 3, 4, etc)

and i don't think the soft key 2 (used to delete) on my mpc is broken, yet i cannot erase the notes/sounds i wanna edit out......can you guide me through this?

Can you actually see the note in the step edit screen?

Yeah.. you have to make sure you're step editing the track that the note you want to delete is on... if that makes sense.

Makes perfect sense. Make sure you are on the right track and you have the timing/quantize set exactly as it was when you recorded that track and your note should show up..

alright, i figured out that you have to use the up and down cursor to move to the notes you want to edit.....

but for some reason, i am only able to edit/delete samples that i recorded on the mpc and assigned to the pads....i am unable to delete drum hits in my sequence even though i can hear the drums/snares going off when i'm scrolling by them in step edit (and i tried pressing the up and down cursor keys, nothing happens)....btw, these drum hits i'm trying to edit are part of the program i'm using (my drum kit i assembled on mpc editor)

oh yeah, and i can't see the actual note # of the drum or snare when i'm running by it in step edit (i can see the note # for samples however)...how do i get the note # for my drum hits to show up?

can i even use step edit for my drum hits? is there an easier way of doing what i'm trying to accomplish?

In the Step Edit Options screen try changing from NEXT STEP to NEXT EVENT and use the arrow buttons.

alright you guys i finally figured it out.....

you gotta be on the appropriate track # in the main screen in order to edit the notes (to that specific track) in step edit.....duh!

step edit is sooooooo tedious though! (takes me forever to edit like 10 different tracks for one simple beat, especially when i forget what sounds are on each track!)

can i accomplish the same type of editing (taking out individual drum hits and samples in long/extended sequences) when i transfer my sequence/beat to soundforge 6.0?
i don't have my audio interface yet so i haven't used this program with the mpc....

If you are doing a bunch of repetitive edits on the MPC, then use Seq Edit. It will allow you to move, copy, shift and edit many note parameters of a set of notes across multiple tracks.
