My Glitchy MPC60

OK some of you guys may remember me posting that mp3 of my "tuned" drums. They were all glitched out crazy sounding. It was a mystery...

Now, I transfered wav files of an acetone rythym ace to snd on floppy to the 60. Everything worked and loaded but to my suprise every single sample was glitchy. To me, that means the OS roms are suspect. Anybody have any comments or advice? Possibly some old OS roms I can borrow and see what happens when installed?

Hmm, if it wasn't the memory, and your battery's still dead, maybe there's some battery leakage? I'd try two things,

first, no midi cables connected to the 60 at all when loading, and don;t touch the pads while loading. see if the acetone still messes up. (was it 16 bit 44.1k files?) also what disks are you using, new old floppies? have they been near magnets? I'm reaching here, but hopefully a lucky stab will help. Try a new floppy. It also could be that your DAC's are out of alignment. Man, take it to a tech, get it sorted, make sure he gives you an estimate and you have the scratch to get it right when he's done. But seriously get that looked at, it sounds like something that could get worse if you don't get it looked at.

Oh, what did you use to conver wav to snd? Best to use the MPC editor only, as I have had some glitches with wav to snd but none with the editor.

I used new 720's, 16bit, 44.1, and mpc editor on 98 for transfer...
I called around my area and I can't find anyone to service this thing so I probably have to ship out. Just got enough cheese for the scsi too, Im not sweatin it though, I need to get this thing running right first anyway.

It might be the DAC's, I wish Rohan or Mike would check this out, they got the deep brains, I just save them a lot of grunt work

Haha, you been a good help man. Theres just not that much knowledge out there on the 60 beyond this fourm so everything I have learned so far from everyone here is definatley appreciated. Im in KC and the 60 is like extinct around here, I looked locally about a month with no success before I copped this one off ebay. I got the MK1 with upgrades except scsi for $450+shipping so it wasnt that bad of a deal, but I also wasn't told of any of it's flaws. I haven't called everyone in town but theres only a few places left to hit up tommorow. I'm hopin I can fix this myself or at least get it taken care of without shipping. In the meantime tonight I think Im gonna record some of those glitchy sounds to wavs they might come in handy sometime.

yeah, the service manual is available in the FAQ, grab it and tell the techs that you have the service manual.

KC is kansas city? there should be someone out there who can fix it. Good deal on the price! it might be a dac adjustment. If you need to ship it somewhere I would go with VST, they got good prices and work pretty fast. And they know the 60 well. Maybe give them a call see what they say, it might be something we're overlooking.

You did try pulling out the expanded memory and sampling with just the standard right?

Yeah, it samples fine, its just that 16 levels tuning is all crazy. I was thinking about popping those simms off the mainboard and switching them with the ones from the memory expansion to see what happens. That might be suicidal though... I sold my microkorg tonight so now I'm sure I got enough loot to fix it and still get the scsi from Linn, I can't wait.

Yeah, get the 60 straight and cop whatever midi joints you find in pawn shops besides the absolute crappy stuff. KC should have some nice joints in the Pawn shops.

Gotta have your 16 levels workin right, get the repairshop to swap the battery too, it shouldn't afdd too much to the cost.
