OK, Who would pay for new OS updates?

yeah but doesnt the fantom comes with a rocksolid os in the first place? with features that were supose to be in there? Unlike the Akai MPC4000...

I mean, lately I have so many problems with the MPC4000, i really dont wanna pay to see it work like it should.
If my mpc works flawlessy, i would be thrilled to pay for more features! no doubt

Sure, grass is always greener, the Fantom, MV and any other workstation is always a work in progress, check for the theards on the traslator that never came around for the fantom. They were screeming murder. Go check out the bugs in the MV. Go to the sites and read. Its not perfect in any forum.

I said "I believe that V1.71 is the last free update", not "I know that" nor "officially".... this is my opinion, nothing more.

And also, I was talking about NEW features, not bug fixes.

As I mentioned, I'm not working for Akai Pro anymore, so I don't know for sure what they're up to.
If there are some serious bugs in V1.71, then they'll most likely be working on it and a bug fix update would be free.

That said, my MPC4000 is working fine and I won't get rid of it at any cost!

Regarding my question about paying for new features, again, this is an idea, not something that is already decided.
It's just that there are some features that I think would be useful.

that 1 question seems to have stop all prodiction for a minute....haze is right,at least let us know what were getting into before we commit to saying yes or no,cause we already payed(some people) a lot for the machine,then we have to pay for digital ins&outs, which for the cost of the machine s/pdif should have been a given,not to mention the analog outs.so I think it's best to at least let us know what feature's your talking and did you see the feature list the we compiled awhile back? if those request are met $50-$75 would'nt be bad.

I would pay for the ability to assign program numbers to entire parts and change parts remotely via midi program change (CHANGE ENTIRE PARTS NOT PROGRAMS ASSIGNED TO PARTS) via the the normal sampler, not the INT-A or INT-B portion of the sampler. This would be amazing.

I would also pay for the ability to audition programs. This was available on the s6000 you could choose to audition a chord, a note, etc.


If I had those two options, I wouldnt need anything esle.

I'd pay if it was worth it. Sean designed the DPS24 and still uses the MPC 4000 according to his posts at the DPS forum. Maybe he could give us some multi-track recording features. I would also like to see better effects with preset libraries that could be edited and saved for later recall. The current effects are garbage. How about a three or four band parametric EQ per part? How about a seperate audition in Mix feature within the record page with a seperate volume fader. In other words, If I got a drum beat looped and I want to sample my Bass while the loop is running I can adjust the record gain knob until I have my bass signal peaking at or near 0db. Then instead of having to drop the record gain volume to hear the bass sit accurately within the drum mix, I could simply adjust the "new" mix volume fader to attenuate the full bass signal within the drum mix or not. This is important because it would allow me to more accurately adjust the EQ on my outboard preamp for the Bass so I can record with more precision in regards to frequency. It seems a bit petty I know, but if you record through various analog outboard equipment then little details can make quite a bit of difference sometimes. If the MPC already has this feature in some form or another, or if you think this is weak suggestion then **** me.

1/ No you dont want that! If the MPC streams from HD, it IS worse than a computer.. (oh man... imagin... streaming from HD.... )

What we want is more midi sequencing features FOR FREE And a stable fast OS. Thats it.

Id pay for recycle styled chopping too and streaming from HD is still a great idea. Ikke: it will probably stream into the RAM just like any other professional recording software (logic, cubase etc) so theres no reason to spill your guts about how much it would suck.

Id also pay for some sort of realtime timestretch if its implemented well and can be used on one individual sample (maybe chosen in the same way as the 16 levels is) and controlled by the q slider. I doubt thats possible though...

Oh and better reverbs and effects I think alot of people would pay for...

And Sean: I guess you have the ability to actually compile your own os for the 4000, what do YOU see as realistic, possible updates and how much would they cost us?

And Sean, if you abandon the idea of doing it, you should really consider making the source code widely available.. maybe some "GNU" developed version of the OS would magically appear

I'd pay for really new features, like my individual track length proposal. I wouldn't pay for features that were in the original specs and haven't been implemented yet, like the disk streaming feature. I also wouldn't pay for bug fixes.

I always assumed AkaiPro would take the traditional route, and have a (near-) perfect OS by v2.0, finally supporting all the original specs.

But again, I'm more than willing to pay for extra features. Those developers have to eat too!

No, usually the first part of a sample that streams from a HD is preloaded in the RAM and the rest of the file are streamed from the hd.

It's nearly a year now since I sent them a marked-up PDF mungeing in all the OS Addendum stuff.

Maybe even one day they'll give me the FrameMaker files and I'll re-write the damn thing in English
