MPC 4000 and midi keyboard...HELP!!

What's up homies and fellow MPC 4000 users!!! Check this out, I have the 4000 and a keyboard and I can not for the life of me get the MPC to record what I play on the keyboard. Could someone please start from the very begginning and treat me like I'm semi-retarded and lead me through this process, I need to know any and all cables and configurations etc., cuz what I'm tryin now obviously isn't workin. It would be more than appreciated.

how do you have it hooked up? it is self explanatory

are you playing multsamples on the MPC or do you have a keyboard with sounds on it. If you said yes to answer 2, do you have a mixer? If not you need a mixer. Didn't this get answerd for you on another board?

They're helping me on another board, yes, but this ish is difficult and confusing. No, there's no mixer, just keyboard and MPC, and yes I do have midi cables running from the MPC to the keyboard and vice versa, and yes I have the ins going to the outs. And yes, my keyboard has sounds already in it, I just want to play the keyboard and record on the MPC, cuz the keyboard has all kinds of cool sounds on it, even drum kits. ok, to pull yhis off you need a mixer. Or, you can plug the audio outs of the keyboard into the sample inputs of the akai. If you do this you will only be able to hear the keyboard sound when you are in the record page.

make a drum sequence on your mpc.
goto record page, do not stop playing the sequence
record what you play on your keyboard into the mpc sample memory
edit sample/samples,
create program
go back yo sequence, and carefully place those samples into a new track.



or just spend some money on a mixer. do you have a dj mixer, or do you hook a turntable directley?

I don't have any mixer, and there's no audio outs on the keyboard, only midi in and out. Will the headphones port work?

Lord Toranaga, do you remember the "6 shallow 5 deep" technique from the book? I made a hot ass song, "6&5", the college radio stations love it here, I'll send you a copy if you remember it.

how can u have no audio outs on the keyboard?
that makes no sense. unless it is just a midi controller and apparantly it is not since there are sounds on it.

It's a radioshack keyboard, model md-1700, it's pretty nice. I know when you hear radioshack you're like what the hell, but it's real big and has good sounds in it. I actually saw it on MTV cribs one time in someone's home studio. I bought it a couple years ago to practice piano on, way before my MPC, but since it says midi on it I figured I could use the two together. But there's no port labeled audio, just the ones I listed before, the headphone jack is the only thing I can think of that would work.

how can you say it has good sounds if it has audio outs, the sound has to be coming from something more than the headphone jack. Let me look up the keyboard add check some specs, in the mean time cop a mixer you will need it.


Ok I see that this thing has speakers on it so you might be out of gas when it does come to using audio outs and I didn't see any audio outs listed on sonic state. Your best bet might be to use it as a midi controller and buy some sample CD's of the insturments that you want to use.

So if I get a sample cd, which I have, I have like 4 of em, I can play those sounds through my keyboard? Like assign the piano sounds to my keyboard and play it like that? Cuz I've just been loading the sounds and using the pads, and I'd much rather play the keys than hit the pads when it comes to piano and bass lines etc.

ok, you have the midi outs of the keyboard going to the midi in, the MPC will hold all the sounds, your keyboard will just send the midi notes to the corresponding notes and the MPC will record and play them.
