what do u need to start making beats(hip hop ones mostly)

i know nothing and would like someone to tell me what i need and how much and what it does

i dont want to have it based on the computer tho

and what is a ROland falcom S, someone told me to get taht ?

for starters u will need the drive ambition and motivation to go to ur local music store and look at these items first hand as well as mess around with them

Anyhow

Get an MPC1000, and some vinyl or cd's to sample and a set of speakers or headphones so you can hear what your doing.

Take shit home open box of mpc take mpc out open manual read how to install mpc and power it up. Now start banging those pads while reading the manual.

You can sample and make beats on the MPC 1000. For one if your really not too into how the whole MPC thing works and need to build rhythm into your style I suggest you start off on ACID 4.0 / 5.0 or Fruity Loops to gain a basic understanding and knowledge to how music tracking is produced. Then once you got the hang of that you can move on to the hardware of the MPC's wither it be the 1000, 2000XL, 3000, or 4000.

It's not worth spending a grand or more on an MPC when you might get frustrated because you don't know the basics on how to produce on hardware then to spend a few hundred on some basic software. That way you can test and see if your built to be a producer.
