Got a question for X-MPC 2000 users who went to the XL. I was thinking about trading in my 2000 for a XL. I was messing around with my home boy's XL and loved how the XL felt compared to the over all feeling of the 2000. Such as how the pads, knobs, screne etc all felt real firm and warmth.

Just drop your thoughts, I know in the end it's a personal move to make but I just wanted to gather some feed back to see what others have to say who made that move.

The flip screen and the Track Mute screen were all I needed to make the move...


...although my XL is now sitting in a corner while I bang away at this MPC1k.

I would definitly trade for the XL, just because of a few more options, that I think makes a world of difference.

i love my mpc. but wouldnt mind the storage and program capacity of the 1000.

one thig i like about the 2000 more than the xl is the jog wheel, its eaiser to get your start point with it.

^^^I use the variation slider for that.

My personal opinion..

I weighed the pros and cons awhile back and here’s what I came up with.

**The flip screen is cool... but it's not a big deal, I’ll just adjust the contrast on the classic. **The dedicated track mute button is a pointless perk, and **time-stretch is the proverbial “gift and curse” **along with the resample feature.

What I did find useful was its file management system, the next sequence button, its ability to play multiple programs, and the possible post manufacturer improvements. Was that enough to make me wanna trade in my classic for an XL? Nope. But if I stumble across one for cheap and in good condition, I’ll cop it.

**The original MPC2000 is classic, and when they are no longer made I’ll still have mine… In mint condition, with its original paint job. Yall should see it lookin’ all clean, sit’n amongst its Akai brethren [shout out to Roxstar for that clean ass S1000, I’m lovin it].

I've messed around with the XL and have been using the classic for about 7 years. Stick with the classic. Its not a classic machine like everybody is saying, but I like the simplicity of it.

The timestretch: I think this is a wack feature. Having the timestretch option limits your creativity. And I think it sounds butt.

Zone Editing: I really dont like the zone editing on the XL. I dont like how it chops everything into 16ths and whatnot.

Bascially, it comes down to feel. The new features on the XL are mostly unnecessary. And what's more, the limitations of the 2000 forces you to make real decsions when you're programming. If you're gonna upgrade, get the 3000.

Depends what it means to you? I have an XL, but how much are you really losing with the plain 2000? Just a few options, people still bang out work with a 2000 and others with lower options......do what you think benefits you, but make sure you don't have to spend too much in upgrading on a few differences

A good reason to go for the xl instead of the classic:
One word, SAMPLE CD (ok that's 2 words )

The mpc 2k classic does not read standard cdroms and also does it not recognize folders. That alone is already a good enough reasonfor me to go for the 2kxl if I had to choose between the classic and the xl. Apart form the fact that you can install an internal cf reader/ zipdrive without too much hassle.

Yo son, that is not pointless. In fact I get new ideas for rechopping a sample by swiching up tracks on the track mute screen. Not to mention it makes sequencing a song after you recorded the vocal simple.

The only reason anyone would call this feature pointless is they don't know how to use it effectively........

Read the post again, dog. I called the button pointless, not the feature. The classic has it too (press open window while the track on/off field is highlighted). Trust me I know the importance of such a feature, Son.

I consider the MPC2000 a classic cause it set a standard and became a staple of Hip-Hop production, just as other samplers I'd call classic (SP12/1200, ASR10, etc.)

Those are my opinions and and for good reason.

you can change how many zones you want to make as well as adjust the start and end points of each zone before making the slices..........

The main reason I never switched over to the xl is cause it doesn't have a separate digit wheel on the data knob like my old 2k. Everything else besides the file folders isn't really a necesity. Fugg zone choppin' you should chop it yourself by ear. Only thing I'd replace the old 2k with is the 4000 cause of all the extra filters and multisampling or the 1k cause it has better filters and effects than the 2k plus portability without being as complicated as the 4k. Classic 2k users, try to stick to your guns!

YES. i hate the jog wheel on the xl. i just use the numbers.
