Simplicity?

I was just wondering if you guys think it's ok to make a simple beat?

I'm just curious?

Sometimes things get too complex and you end up doin' way too much.Which in turn ends up doin' more harm than good.I'm not sayin go the pharell route with the beatbox and cheesy drums just a simple melody that still has heart and soul.

That's all that Dr Dre makes is simple tracks with the least instruments as possible it's the sign a good producer.

the key of makin a beat is making it for the artist it doesnt matter how simple it is. the more simple the better. as long as you leave space for the vocals and dont become too complicated. you want you beat to bring out the best in the artist voice.

I checked yes, always. But I would've put yes, but add instruments when needed. Don't just add sounds and instruments just to add them!

Dre just makes it sound simple, but I think he layers alot of sounds to mesh together....and it sounds simple...

Yeah I think simplicity is key..."sprinkles" are what makes simple interesting.

i think it depends. if you're planning on incorporating a vocal track in there, then you need to keep it simple constantly and build it up during breaks in the vocals. if you're just doing scratching etc then you're gonna need a constant beat. If you want to have a point where the track breaks down you just need a simple beat. perhaps just a bass drum and a snare for when you just need that.
