Yeah I gotta agree with philly, he didn't get rid of the 1200, he got a 2000 in addition, and we don;t know how he uses it, it could be to sample parts from the 1200 so he gets more time, etc.

Maybe someone needs to point out songs where they can hear the 2000 only Vs. SP, cuz I dont think he ever stopped using the 1200. In the making of Soul Survivor you see him on the SP and no sign of the 2000.

Lyrics are good on this remix, beat is ok. Pretty basic for a Pete cut, drum patterns are very uncharacteristic of him. Since when does he not throw step ups in his drums? And whats with the turntableless Pete rock these days?

I for one have clarifaction from the horses mouth - my man D Smoothe outta NY - check him on the Schoolz of Thought Remix....homey is dumb nice.....anyhow I just chatted with him yesterday on the phone and he had been chillin over Pete's crib many a times and learned many things from Pete himself and claims to this day that "Pete don't even fuk with the 1200 AT ALL!!" He also went on to say that "Pete used the 1200 for the entire Petestrumentals album, he does not link up sp-1200's for more sample time he got a technique for squeezing more sample time out of it and has somehow figured a way to remove the ring modulation from the samples when he pitches down....." ----- go figure. I'm gonna go ahead and say that this is 99.9% true cus homey D Smoothe got a lot of clout and has worked with many many many kats in NY.

We all seem to agree that HipHop has changed drastically over the past 8 or 9 years....I'd say since Puffy came in and fukked it all up with his bullshit remixes which weren't even that.....they were more like poor reiterations of classic funk/soul songs.....shouldn't have allowed him to destroy great music....anyhow......Our whole philosophy is just that "IF IT AIN'T BROKE DON'T FIX IT!" and anybody that doesn't see HipHop music as a major art form is a dumb fool and should understand that there is a difference between good art and bad art and today's production quality is mostly bad, nobody does their homework, nobody wants to get into proper procedures and emcees are worse than ever because the production has waned greatly thus influencing them to rhyme wacker and wacker. Prime example....Canibus. That dude tried for many man years to find a dope ass producer to help him out with his lyrics.....dude just couldn't hit the mark....he had always worked with wack ass producers.....man fukkit...the list goes on and on......HipHop is my music for life and i'm gonna be there with my man G-note right by his side promoting the correct information speaking the reality.....we know what time it is....i'm a just bring it to you all that much more!

Oh and to those of you that don't think the machine makes you who you are have no concept of machinary and equipment.....obviously you ain't mess with various samplers......those of you that understand what we're trying to say know the deal.

Hip Hop is a State of Mind, remember that son... It's not just a **** sound! Clean, dirty, raw, grimey whatever. A good beat is a good beat (samples or not). Not everybody wants to sit around drinking herbal tea and over-analyse the sample engines of all these historic machines, and complain about the state of hip hop. Most people want to be up in the clubs hearing beats that makes they heads nod and makes them move on the floor. Hip Hop is all about having a good time, raising awareness, and spreading the word. Music has always evolved, and will continue to evolve wether u like it or not. Just carve out your spaces yawl, initiate some changes, and stay hip hop!
