Any solution to the PCD 47B "Write Protect" error?

I installed a PCD 47B in a 2000XL (OS 1.14) and can get it to read from smart media and cf cards fine. it seems that the drive is in write protect mode. i can't get it to write to or format anything. i keep getting the error message "Write Protect ! !"

I have installed a couple different pcd 47b's. One with firmware 3.0 and a different one with firmware 3.1. I have ruled out SCSI id conflicts. (I've tried it with all the scsi ID settings & termination settings.) Anyone else having this problem? Any solution? It seems like this s.o.b. just wants to be installed in a kodak kiosk.

have you tried using a different disc? or tried formating the disc on a PC? Maybe the disc is write protected.

Also what letter is next to your firmware number in the format screen? My friend has firware 3.1R and could only get it to read.

I have tried 2 different compact flash cards & a smart media card. I have formatted them on a PC & all give the same result. I have also used a couple different pcd-47b drives. the firmware version on the drive installed right now comes up as Ver.=r3.1

anyone know where to get different versions of the firmware?

No bent pins inside the card reader ?

If the pins were bent he would not be able to load from the drive, so I don't think that is it.

I seriously think the R means read only. Mine has Ver =m3.2 (see below), but I know 3.1 will work with the MPC.

mpc3000 has the firmware, go to his site www.midicase.com and send him an email through the contact page, he might be able to help you out.

I have the PCD-47 firmware loader software here somewhere but I am not sure where it is. Microtech sent it to me years ago.

if you find it, please let me know. i'm pretty convinced that has to be my (and maybe a few other silent members) problem. i have ruled out all the other obvious culprits. it's between the mpc OS and the firmware & I doubt it's the OS.

I would also suggest going back to the seller of the PCD. Unless they advertised it with a read only OS, it is their problem. Insist that they sold you either a defective product or, at worst, misleading advertisement. Most of the people selling these have more than one.

thanks for the advice, but i'd rather try to resolve it from a technical perspective rather than go through some sort of buyer/seller resolution fiasco.

i'll post up if i have a major break-thru. lol.

After communicating with Mike Goins, he was able to locate the updated firmware in a very old email. He will be posting the updated firmware on mpc2000xl.com shortly.

I will update the firmware later this evening and post my results.
