fattening up drum samples

I know a lot of you guys use Soundforge or other wave editing programs to tweak your drum sounds before you sample them into your MPC, what effects do you use and for what purpose.
Example: If I have a hollow snare I might add a little chorus and reverb to it.

On Sound Forge I would probably use EQ, chorus just like u said..

I use wavelab myself, but it's almost the same. The stuff i use most is distortion, eq and compression.
I almost never use reverb on single samples, when i need some reverb i'll add that during mixdown. If you put reverb on all your drumsamples separately , it will sound like the drumkit is all over the place instead of sounding like one drumkit.

Also, the hyperprism 1.5 pluginpack QUASI-STEREO also "fattens" up samples for me quite nicely. I even have a batchscript that processes multiple samples through this particular plugin. They sound real phat afterwards.

you should start with a sound that is already good..you'l be wasting you time trying to make something out of nothing.. for the most part, eqing is all you need to do (as far as pre-production goes), but in the studio, some compression will go a long way.. I wouldn't use compression before you record unless your 100% sure you want it to stay that way in the final mix. Chances are, your compression is no match for those used in a full blown studio, so just wait till you get there for that.
