Does anyone know where I can get the official zip kit upgrade for my2000xl from Akai? And has anyone had any major problems with the zip kit from Akai?

You can order it from Musicians Friend and American Musical Supply, I believe it's still going for $120

I went to a PC store and got an internal 250mbZIP drive and installed it myself cause the kit is way overpriced to me.

I want to just buy a 250MB internal drive from a store but I am scared it won't work due to the issues that come up in the MPC not recognizing the drive or booting up. I just bought the MPC new 3 months ago so does the age of when the machine was manufactured have anything to do with whether a 250 mb drive will work in it. I am also very interested in an internal cf drive. If I wanted to go that route what kind of drives would I need to get for my computer and MPC and how is saving different when using those drives.

I don't think the manufactured date will matter.
You cannot use an internal CD drive with mpc2kxl, SCSI CDR only.
You can't save on SCSI CDR with mpc2kxl.

I was talking about a compact flash drive like MPC3000 has in his MPC's

How hard did you look?

http://www.arbitergroup.com/pricelists/html_pricelists/akaipricelist.htm

http://www.onlinerock.com/mf_store/key/e/Expansion_Boards/Akai_ZIP_MPC2_Comple_702131.htm

Page 1 and page 3 of Google results :?

Complete waste of money though. All the parts come to around $50 from any online computer store. Where does the other $70 come from? It's even worse on the UK price, a 200% markup!

AFAIK, there are no issues with any 100MB zip drive, only some 250's.
