converting MPC4k programs for MPC1k??

anyone know what most reliable method is these days?

I dont understand why the MPC4000 reads MPC3000 programs and sounds but isnt compatible with the new MPC1000.
This must be an Akai joke! Because if they were compatible they would sell more 1000´s & 4000´s .. at least thats what my brains tell me

I thought that Rob of this Forum had written a Linux program from doing this. Don't know if he released it or not. Try contacting with a PM...

I wrote an app to convert mpc1000 programs to S5000 format (S5000 because the format is publically available). The mpc4k reads S5000, and it works. I haven't released it yet because the guy that would send me test material (mpc1000 programs) did not have the time yet. So it's not out of beta yet.


If you want the mpc1000 to read mpc4000 programs, all you have to do is make sure the mpc4k program is a *drum* program. Afaik, the mpc1000 reads those just fine. Obviously, a lot of not most of the nice mp4k features will be ignored by the 1k, but samples and zones and stuff should make it.

I've found that the mpc1k messes up the envelopes on a lot of mpc4k programs meaning each one has to be adjusted by hand which pretty much defeats the point of conversion as the new prog doesn't sound anything like the old!
