He didnt do hate it or love it. Cool and Dre did it. Not "Dr. Dre." He isnt overrated, but his latest work really hasnt quite been that of The Chronic Album or Doggy Style. I think its because of the different musicians. The musicians he had in the Death Row days are way better that the ones he has now. He was able to redefine his sound but I miss his old style.

maybe dr. dre isn´t at his height now, but he still manages to bang out some cool stuff, I like(d) "How We Do" very much, got it as an mp3 in late september or early october and I wished it would be the first single and couldn´t wait until it actually came out on 12", but if it´s on the tv all the time (i think it also was top 10 in germany, i don´t know exactly because i´m not really into german charts because mostly they suck) it gets kinda usual to your ears...

and well he doesn´t do that chronic and doggystyle type thing anymore, but artists improve...cypress hill don´t sound like albums I-III anymore, do they? ok we could argue about "how" artists "improve"...
i think it´s very interesting that dr. dre has a bunch of musicians who play for the productions, when i first heard "Don´t Say Nuthin´" i thought it was a dre beat, but then i found out it was by Scott Storch and then that this guy played keyboard for the dr., adding something to that "typical" dre sound since Chronic 2001...well maybe he does not do everything alone, maybe he gets his lyrics written by others, but damn he knows to arrange all that stuff.

Dre's cool too...props where its due...but i dont ACTIVELY go searching for Dre stuff the way i would Jay dee....He's under-rated in my 'Humble' opinion....but thats all it is...MY OPINION!!!!

You have to understand Dre is more like an exec producer than actual producer these days.
He oversees what other do, makes suggestions and approved the song.
It's not like in the past where he was the one actually sitting down doing the mad scientist thing.
There is a big following for his sound in it's current state so he doesn't have to push to overdrive, but don't under estimate what he can do when neccessary.

If you remember the same type of thing went down with PE when Hank started overseeing the production instead of actually doing it.

YET....(No 'but'...just YET)...I still dont 'FEEL brother Dre the way i FEEL J-Dilla!!!!

Dre is DOPE as heck & i definitely support the attention he pays to detail, song structure, sound design & all that....

But theres just something about hearing a Dilla-Dawg beat that'll make me MOVE man...especially when you hear how he FLIPPED a break or something....Typically, Dre's use of a break may be straight down the line & obvious!!!

I never compare things that have no common factor.
Dre and JayDee would be like that to me, they dwell in 2 different realms.
Their musical goals are different, the people they make music for are different, just so many variables.
Just to bad Slum didn't have MC's who could get JayDee to the peoples ear they way they should have.
Whenever I listen to them I always find myself listening to the instrumental or wishing for an instrumental.
Same problem I have with Doom and several others.

I often got bored of hearing the sex-fueled rhymes...there's only so many times u can rhyme about clitoral fantasy & activity before it becomes spent & BORING.....

Plus yup....2 different spheres of aural acceptance for Dre & Jay dee....

Having said that...there will always be a common ground between 2 sets no matter how thin the number of people this common area encompasses may be!!!

The production on No One Can Do It and Ni66az4life is absolutely incredible...

Mind Blowin this track just has the perfect title...The beat just did that to me when I first really listened to it...It blew my mind...you have to really listen to see what he is doing with a turntable and drum breaks...sickness...

Whirlwind Pyramid...again killing it with the turntables and fader...DEE JAY DOCTOR DRE....

Formula...what else needs to be said...This was my favorite cut when I first bought this album....that bass drum was hitting hard...

Portrait of a Masterpiece...a track that gets seriously overlooked...The sound it had was ahead of its time I believe...and fvcking DOC just killed it with what imo is the best verse ever...


Appetite for Destruction....Dre at his sinister best...The way he just combined everything perfectly in that track had my jaws dropping....the samples he put in to end a verse and begin a new one...just flawless...One of my all time favorite Dre tracks...

Approach to Danger....Another dark, scary type beat...great use of a rock guitar sample....

I really think alot of heads forget what Dre has given to us as fans...I think when they think of Dre they think The Chronic, Doggystyle and 2001 and thats it....Most people forget the FOUR classics he dropped before 1992....I think Dre doesn't get appreciated enough...

Yella use to have input but Dre began to step forward as the group started it's internal seperation.
