DRUMS -mono or stereo?

Hi. I have had my MPC 2k exactly 7 days now and making beats was never so intense. woow. One question however...
Does it make any difference to convert my snares and kicks and hihats in case of being stereo to mono?
I want to save on the outputs when mixing down through my mixer ...

If you search the forums (and the main site), you'll find lots of info about this.

kick - mono
snare- mono
hats- stereo
cymbals-stereo
toms-mono

thats just how I do it, most peeps do it all mono and use efx./panning to locate the drums in the mix.
plus you can always make it stereo later.

It only matters if the original sample has stereo information you don't want to lose. Even though technically you can convert it back to stereo, it won't sound like the original stereo sample, it will just be the computers interpretation of stereo which will just be even distribution between left and right so it will still sound like mono. For example if you sample a snare/clap that was originaly recorded with the snare panned a little left and the clap panned a little right and then convert that to mono, when you convert it back to stereo it wil just be the mono sample split down the middle so you would have lost the true stereo image.

i am sorry....also..... you need stereo if your sample has efx or a certain pan you are feeling...doesn't matter if it is drums or not....if your drums sound the same on each side you can use mono and be str8.....sometimes mono takes some meat/tail away

hey that was nice, it does has some prefuse action. prefuse is crazy.

it is funny with that prefuse comparison. To be honest I got that a lot with regard to that beat, but I do not even listen to the guy. Sure, I heard the album once or twice .....
That beat was not made on an MPC. It was Floops.
But since I got my MPC 2k I see how easy it gets to make prefuse or rjd2 type of beats. Obviously not copying their style, just that we have the same tools now. hehe.
the beat was pretty all analog mixed so do not mind the hiss. I love the hiss.

off-topic: what sample was used in the first beat...? I sample all drums mono.. maybe stupid in some cases tho'...
