what for house music? write a house tune which is good enough for club play and let me know where your kicks fall!!!- no diss; if you know share....

ive tried loads of refs and found that for the style i do this is often the best ref- although could be the kick i use....either way it works for me- ive tried mixing with the kicks lower and it does help with some styles but the club based house i was always pushing the whole mix up after the fact due to having the kick (and therefore everything else) too low for recording..

actually ignore that- ive just looked at one of my tunes and found the kicks aren't actually at -3db...i never do the same tune to tune anyways

havent really used it much- cos my tunes are aimed for the floor i want central bass and low mid...i dont want any crazy panning or too mch wideness so have never felt the need to use it- although am interested in trying using negative values for the bass to tighten them further....

but nah instruments except bass and bd are never dead ecntre- even my snares are left or right incrementally- comes from using the panning/mono trick a lot

anyone else?

ah man that thing is a life saver, especially if your mix is centered.
I always pan stuff, but i'm very careful with it.

i don't think you can use the low and mid-low in the stereo imager but the highs give your track more life.
have to be careful with it thow...

I hear ya. When I master a beat using the stereo imager It sometimes gives me great results, but when i Analyze My Phase routes they just go bananas!

i actually first learned how to mix from a legendary house producer who shall remain nameless. i myself do not produce house but as far as drums go they both have hard kicks. although i do have 1 release coming out this summer called Verano, which i produced mixed, and mastered. In have a meeting on friday with my publisher concerning who is going release it. i will let u know once it is confirmed. the two really arent that different in terms of drum mixing.
also what i am saying is that the loudness of the track should be attained in the mastering part. i can get a lot of db's out of a limiter and then the sony inflator can get me even more on top of that. i used to use a mastering multiband but just dont like what multibands do to a whole mix. if u want to is easier to hear what i am talking about than describe it, so send me a track mixed where all kicks and snares are at -6db and i will show u what i am talking about.

man... my ears hurt!
i stayed for 12 hours straight mastering with headphones and loud speakers on, now my ears hurt, actual physical pain, never thought it was possible.
did i do something wrong?
oh well after 1 month of recoding and mixing to finish it up with 12 hours of mastering wasnt a smart thing to do.... damn my ears hurt!

this sucks :(

"did i do something wrong?"

yes, you spent too long listening to your music. your ears can't take it. back off, take regular breaks and remember to vary the volume - don't keep it all loud all the time (especially in your headphones)

yeah, some good tips going on here... keep em coming.

am really intrigued by the number of users here with teh UAD card. I am using Powercore and really love it. currently they have a ridiculously good offer on upgrading form pci mk1 to pci mk2 that i am going to take up. but before i do, does anyone have any comparative comments on the two cards.

(for those with powercore pci mk1 check out www.tcelectronic.com and see what deal they are offering. it's nice :-) )
