You hit the nail on the head!!!

The way are brain works is the issue i was trying to point out. Yoo do more Looking than Hearing with software of which for me aint right, but can be helpful etc. Its all down to what work style is appropiate for you. "Hands on" or "CLICK CLICK"

Live is a good program though, less click click, more music. pitty i got midi problems with it.

software is no better than hardware and hardware is no better than software but software is cheaper and capable of doing anything hardware can do at a fraction of the cost. period.

Hardware contains software, and software needs hardware. The discussion is kind of moot. :)

"CLICK CLICK"

i am not sure what you mean about "click click". what type of controller do you use? if you have a control surface there is no "click click". if you have the bare minium of hardware controller(s) i do understand exactly what you are saying but with a control surface there is no "click click".

to each its own but my problem with mpc is that it take too long to get the music going. for "me" with software once the app is open i have access to all my sounds/samples. whether battery for drums or lounge lizard for electic keys or trilogy for bass, i have those sounds/samples at my finger tips. flipping thru the load page on the mpc takes away from "my" inspiration, it just takes too long.

it also depends on your workflow. if you sample from a turntable/cd player/ipod into your mpc, set loop points and add drums/hits to the loop the mpc is ideal (no question about that). if your workflow is more like a band (drum, bass, guitar, keys, horns, strings) the mpc is not ideal for this workflow. yes, it can be done on the mpc but done easier with software (especially saving the project).

p.s. no fames today not in the mood but i am talking from experence. i have own yamaha b200 (keyboard sequencer), roland mc-50 sequence, roland mc-50 xl (the one with the sounds included) mpc 2000 classic, cubase 1.5 (now sl 3), band in a box, pro tracks, live4, reason, acid, cakewalk and have own a project studio for over 20 years basically i have "personally" seen the growth in technology and if you do not like the "click click" of sofftware get a control surface and there will be no "click click".

last point, what is "midi learn" for?

What controls surface you using ? i heard those new fader fox,s are pretty tight , but havent tried them myself !

Im not i quite understand what you mean by the MPC being slow ? and havent heard anyone complain about slow workflow really.

finding and loading samples (say you have no computer), setting loop points, timestetching, mixing (panning/volumn) individual pads, copy/paste, the sequencer/song concept (building songs from sequences), saving/naming (samples, sequences, songs), the list could go on but ...

i find that a lot of people who dis ableton haven't actually tried using it.

having said that, 'live' certainly comes into its own when used with a hardware controller...i use a uc-33e which is cheap and cheerful, but there are a lot of equally inexpensive alternatives...in fact, you could get the full program and a controller for half the price of an mpc 1000. if you already have a pooter (esp. a decent laptop) it would certainly be worth considering.

CLICK CLICK, is the sound of the mouse!!!

anyway, software hardware, the point is...

HARDWARE = Purpose Specific, made to do those things only
PC (Software) is General Purpose, made to do loads of things

When u have a PC that is made to be capable to do XYZ, u can be suspectable to problems cause the processor has to worry about keeping the OS running as well as your music app etc.

HW specific the OS is the Music App so its dedicated.

nothing is wrong or right cause your average pc can do great things now, MACS are good cause they can dedicate them selves they also have less cycles to do cause of formats that it dont need to worry about that a PC does.

anyway software and hw soft are just as bad as each other, but its more reliable when its on a machine dedicated to that software.

Some asked about controllers. I use a Doepfer Dehringer 64 knob box: expensive and 'dated' but does SYSEX so good for MKS80 and MW1, still might sell it one day.

Recently got a BCR2000

http://www.behringer.com/BCR2000/index.cfm?lang=ENG

Cost £83(!) from Turnkey. Cool thing about it is the LEDs when setup for 2 way communication. In Live, if turn a knob (mapped to say Vol1) then Volume slider 1 goes up (no surprise). However, if you then change Volume slider 1 with your mouse, the BCR's LEDs change to reflect this! Live and the BCR are always in synch. Same goes with VSTi's. Set it up with say Pro53 and as you swap through presets, all the LEDs swap to reflect the preset. Light-fantastic!

Talking of controllers check out that M-Audio TriggerFinger it looks pretty tight for Live , havent tried it yet and asked in the off topic if anyone has checked one out as i need to know if the pads feel good and if the pressure sensitivity is tight ( not in South Africa yet ) anyway i think it will be tight with live ,,

ps: Yo Mwalker i see you have the MPD , how is it with live and how are the pads on it ?
