Considering im a newbie...SCSI?

I dont kow what the hell a scsi card cord pack is I just want the idiots guide to connecting and External hard drive and Zip drive to an MPC2000Xl please. When im out and about i wont always have acess to a PC. It seems like you wouldnt be able to pull sounds and samples directly from a disk onto a MPC with out a PC. Considering im a newbie im about to find out im terribly wrong im sure!
