How do I find out what memory an MPC 60 Mk2 has???

I'm interested in getting one, but the one I'm after the guy doesn't really know much about it. What menu would he have to goto to find out what memory is installed? I can pass this info on to him then....

Check the FAQ here and at Roger Linn's site.

Try to load a disk with sounds on it or sample a sound then save it. Once you save it load it back up when you load it up, down at the bottom it should say in KB how much memory you got in that mutha'. I lucked up mine was maxed and i got it pretty cheap so I have been hearing.

Yeah I'm weighing up ditching my MV8000 for one of these and I've seen a fairly good one. Hasn't got OS 3.10 or SCSI and not (so he claims) maxed memory even though he owned it from new. I was under the impression all MPC 60 Mk. 2's came with full mem as standard, or was this just US only though? The one I'm on about is a UK model.

It hasn't been gigged and cosmetically sound. It maybe a goer at this stage!

If I do get it I will def get the OS upgrade bu tI don't about everything else....

Essentially I'm still trying to find the sampling drum machine thats right for me!

Also can you use MPC editor software recognise MPC 60 format files?

MPC Editor works well with snd and wav files. I have taken snd files from my 60 converted them 2 wav, edited them and converted them bacc 2 snd with no problem. The only issue i did have with mpc editor so far was reading some of the wav files. I copped my 60 mk1 stocc and the only upgrade i've added is the OS and i'm satisfied. I want 2 add memory and scsi sometime in the future. Uno

I don't think the mkII ever came with the exp memory standard.
Every spec sheet (or ad) I ever saw when the mkII were out listed the memory as a option not a feature.
I never saw this change even up to when the 3000 was released.

my 60ii came with the memory upgrade, previous owner didnt know if it had it but i ran the rog linn faq check and came up trumps

just copped the penultimate route66 os upgrade - ONE LEFT for some lucky cat...tick tick tick...

Still doesn't mean Akai shipped it that way.
More than likely there were some dealers who ordered them that way.

I think all mk II came with the upgrade stock, I have read it numerous places, but now I can't remember.

hah thats what I thought! I swear I read it on here that Mk2's came with full RAM standard

Hearsay, not fact.
Even in 1994 when they released the 3000 all the comparative info on the 3000 stated the standard 60II memory with optional expansion.

That was one of the big points of the 3000, it's standard memory was more than the exp memory in the 60II.
If you use to subscribe to the AKAI Connection you have seen the info AKAI use to publish about various products as well as all the other mailings they use to send out.

One of the many mailings AKAI sent out back then:

But still, it may not be in their documentation or they may have decided to add the memory expansion after the ads went to proof.

What about OS 2.14 shipping with scsi? One guy on the forum had 2.14 but no scsi board.

I'll have to dig around since most of that stuff has been boxed up.

He's what I suspect may have happened.
The designing of the MPC-3000 could be what made the difference.
Akai never did well in those days of selling expansions and options, so maybe with the onset of the 3000 they didn't want to get backlogged with unusable upgrades.
This would have been a viable reason to start shipping the units with exp memory or a SCSI option.
It would also fall under the specifications and design subject to change without notice.
