Just copped a used MPC 2000, I got the SCSI drive connected, every time I try to format it and select the drive, the machine says wait, and just sits there...what to do? Any help would be appreciated.

Maybe you don't have the proprer SCSI ID set in the back.

And make sure the terminator switch is turned on (if it's the only device connected to the scsi port). But first of all : MAKE SURE IT'S A SCSI ZIP DRIVE.

no ignore that about zip drive cos if you haventr bought a zip drive but just a normal scsi drive pt3rs advice makes absolutely no sense- can peeps just read things properly? no diss but disinformation helps no one...

do what lamp says- may need to buy a scsi terminator, yet if you can actually see the drive in your mpcs' screen it has been recognised....personally id format it on the pc and then connect

Is the drive new? It could be dead or dying. I had the same problem when I first got a drive for mine. It would do the same thing for awhile "wait" and then one day it did not do anything. So if it aint new thats probably something you should consider. If it s new, then the things the other gentlemen suggested on here probably will help you. Good luck Rookie and welcome to the fam'.

Good lookin on all the responses...even though the question seems pretty obvious. You know, everybody keeps telling me to look out for this switch on the back of the zip, but that shit don't have one. I have an Imerge zip drive that a partner of mine five fingered for me...may it is a zip, but just not a SCSI...anybody own one of these?

If the lead fits, then it's probably SCSI. Are you getting any 'scsi conflict on ID...' messages? It normally says 'please wait' when it's reading the disk, so chances are it knows there's a drive there and a disc in it. You sure there's no termination switch? Should be right next to the ID switch. It's tiny.

But they're temperamental. Mine only works if i turn on the MPC, then plug in the drive. Then eject the disk, then ask it to load, then wait for the 'scsi device not ready!' message, THEN push it in. I can't see why I should have to do it in that order, but there you go...

Plugging in a scsi drive while the mpc is turned on is the the way to go If you want to blow the scsi fuse of your MPC.

Try putting in a different disk in the drive.
Zip disks go bad all the time.

Yeah, I'm aware the scsi fuse is a weak point, but hot plugging it is the only way it recognises it. Like I say, I don't see why, but there it is.

what if you first turn on the zip drive and then the mpc ?
