i've been doing some research and i was thinking about buying ableton live 4 and syncing my mpc 1000 up to it and starting to do some shows just local party's to get started. Does anyone here use this setup and if so how good do the two work together. Thanks

i think it would work quite well if you can play beats on time without the use of quatinizing and just ran the audio into ableton and recorded the beats directly into audio. if you cant play good enough on time midi would help. but you could use all of your mpc sounds, loop them in ableton and then time stretch add efx the mpc doesnt have. or use the pads to trigger sequences off ableton perhaps. i know you can trigger samples off ableton from the mpc but im not sure if you can trigger sequences on ableton from mpc i have not tried that yet. i know you can use drum triggers to do anything that has midi implementation on ableton. just get ableton anyways.. its just as fun as mpc1000.. just does different stuff. they would make a very nice marriage. mpc to reason to ableton to cubase. WHAT! sorry i got to carried away.

even just using the MPC as a MIDI controller for Live is tight !!! and the hundreds of other things you could do

i was using it and it was going great for a few weeks till I notcied a little MIDI bug in the sync area, when ever u locate to a point on the track on ableton other than from the begining 01.01.00 like 04.04.56 for example...ableton will send the time to the MPC but also make it jump back 2 bars once u press play. so it does not play back in time correctly.
I would wait till Live 5 and see how it is corrected.

Have to go back to SX 2 now cause of this. other than Live 4 is the SH1T!

Hi Penfold - so, if it was not for this sync issue, would you ditch CubaseSX and use Live exclusively?

Im currently considering making a Cubase to Live transition but still investigating...

see you,

Yes I would, though that also depends on if certain plugins i use dont go heywire also... Ableton is just much easier to get along with. though i wish it had more to it but with the same simple interfaces.

I think MPC and Live are a great setup. If you have a good soundcard you can run the four outs of the MPC into live on four different channels, you can apply fillters, etc.... record one chanel put it on a new audio track and free this for a new MPC in. I like using the Mpc for makin my beats and then using soft synths in live you could even have Reason rewired in live at the same time and one out going to your MPC so you can record stuff at all times... There are lots of possibilities, and I think its a powerfull combination. Oh ya and live 5 looks pretty dope

it is easier/better results mixing in cubase. i would use them both, live4/5 to get the creative juices going(make the basic tracks) and cubase for mixing the final product.

i think cubase has a better sound engine also.

p.s. you can rewire live4/5 to cubase also.

Thanks mwalker. However, I really dont want 2 sequencers. I have been with Steinberg for 20 years (before they even started on the Atari!) and like to think of myself as a expert on Cubase - I therefore have no reason to want to stop using it.

EXCEPT for the fact that Live initially looks like it will make me more productive and hence, creative. If Live can not do 100% of what I need/want then I will not ditch 20 years of experience. The last thing I need is yet more technology to slow me down - I am very big on downsizing and this is my main Live drive: I have downsized so much in my studio, maybe I can downsize my sequencer (do I really need everything that Cubase gives me at the expense of complexity, or do I need something relatively powerful yet very creative?! aka - Live!)

Off for some more Live playing... See you,

i use live with the mpc and it's a simple, tight, compact setup. the original idea was to use it for live stuff mostly, but it's such a fun combination that it's become the core of my studio set-up as well.

any suggestions for a soundcard a little cheaper than that? I was thinking $250-200 dollar price range?
