steppin up from a 1k

I looked though at least 3 pages of fourms and most of them were people sayin that they alrdy answered the question which didnt help. So im askin again.

i have an 1k and im pretty close to getting the new 2kxl, but before i drop the cash to get it i want to know what the differences are.

i know the 1k has usb and more memory, and more audio jacks which the new 2kxl dosnt have.

and the new 2kxl has timestrech and also CF too now.

what else am i missing? cause its not adding up to an extra $900 yet.

some people are saying that the features the 1k lacks can be easily subsituted with a computer program? i got a pc which program could i use instead of getting a 2kxl?

would it be better to go ahead and get the 2kxl for another $900 or would learning how to use a program just be better?

Get a good program and invest the money into a synth or rack or something.Just my 2 cents.But ultimately it's up to you and what you feel comfortable with.

I cannot still see why people are saling there 1k's and moving up to 2kxls, to me there is no comparision, the 1k is a better machine. The few features that the 1k is lacking can all be made up in a CPU with the exectption of midi and auto chromatic. If you have the 1k I suggest you invest in some type of sound module a mixer and a midi keyboard. Like a radium49 and a JV-1080 and some type of mixer the best you can afford. I have been using a 1k since it came out and I use a 4k too,there is no way I would trade my 1k in for a 2kxl. My2cents

what are good programs to use? my only problem with the 1k is sampling; im havin a hard time chopping and making the sample fit

the 2k is not really going to help you with that. I chop manually in my 1k, I dont' even really use a CPU for that. What you have to learn how to do is indentify chops that sound good and extract those. Like when you listen for a record find the part that you want to sample, then you highlight a part you want to chop and play it. Think about how this would sound over drums even if its a small chop. Then you extract that part and place it over a pad in a program. This is something that you have to practice for a while until you become good at it. With a a 2k you will still be in the same predicitiment.

The 2kxl is not a step up from the 1k. It was made WAY before the 1k. I don't know why people think it's a step up. You said it yourself, it has more memory, cost less, has usb, standard effects and 4 outs. Stock, it's more capable than a stock 2kxl can ever be.

If I had nothing I would get a 1k before a 2kxl.

PC multitrack programs, Vegas, Samplitude, Adobe Audition.
PC Wave Editor programs, Sound Forge, Wavelab, Adobe Audition.

There's alot of demo, shareware at hitsquad.com that you would be able to use with the 1k. Save the money and get a sythn or midi keyboard instead.

1k is fine for beats without a computer. I was going off of something like what if there was no other gear but the 1k and 2kxl and I had to choose ya know.

Any of the MPC's can be rocked without a computer.

My first sampler was my ASR10 in 1994, I had no computer until the year 2000. I was very happy and makin ok to nice beats with no computer, now I can make bomb beats with my ASR10 (no computer still).
