autochromatic assign fails to give 64 DIFFERENT notes

when i do autochromatic assign, WHY are pads A01, A02, A03, A04, A05, A06, A07, A08 all the same note? it is the same note as A09 and only from A09 onwards does the note begin to change pitch to a higher tuning

it is the same for the last 8 pads too. D16, D15, D14, D13, D12, D11, D10, D09 are all the same. and only from D08 and lower does the note change pitch to a lower tuning

i thought autochromatic assign was supposed to give 64 DIFFERENT pitches, increasing by a semitone EACH time

whats going on here?

Autochromatic Assign pg 117 2kxl manual.. Try the playing with the TUNE when you are in the AutoChromatic Assign window instead of just hitting DO IT..

the mpc can only tune -240 to +240. if you look at the tuning of all the new notes autoassigned, they are in 10 step increments, or whole notes. do the math, with 64 new notes, it can only pitch up or down but so far. the last 8 botes in bank d are all the same too.

i thought that the autochromatic assigned the sample in semitone increments. and that the 64 different notes were relative to that of a keyboard...?

yeah they are, but a semitone in the mpc is not quite like a semitone on the keyboard. it takes 10 to go a step. so if C was at 0, C# is at 10. get it? and it doesnt lay it out so you can play it on the keyboard either, it is in general midi so it would be mapped out all strange on a keyboard but it is in order on the mpc.

i understand. SHIT!!!! i want to be able to make keyboard melodies with samples. there is no way i can do that when 10 keyboard semitones are missing from each mpc semitone. is this where i get a keyboard, or not?

no, youre not actually missing tones, it is just a little different. you still get semitones. i am doing a good job of confusing you, sorry. ok, 10 incremtents of tuning in the mpc is equal to one semitone. so an octave is 120 increments. so, you only get four octaves worth of autoassigning. you can play them like keyboard melodies. is this making more sense?
