expanding my MPC 1000 setup with rack/synth

hi y´all,

i´m thinking about adding some more gear to my mpc 1000, but i´m not quite sure what might be best...

- i could get a microkorg for playing synth basslines and melodies (i could sample that or link it up via midi to the 1K)
- i could get a motif rack, which would supply with some "real" sounds (i think), link it to the mpc and also get a midi keyboard to trigger the sounds

but now i´m in doubt, i´d like to have some "real sounding" instruments, but i would also like to have some synthi flavor...the microkorg would only supply me with the latter, while i don´t know if the motif has anything like that...maybe some of y´all could help me?

i´m going to go to a dj shop tommorrow and test the korg, how the sounds are, handling...but i think they don´t have the motif...


EDIT: ok, i´m dumb, for sure the motif is a synthi also...maybe this would be the best solution because it delivers a lot more sounds than the micro...

why you say that all he wants is some help on what gear he's getting.
You seem to want a more realistic sounding syth so id go with the motif. There are some good synth sounds already on there and the filters and effects are really good. The thing is ive only messed bout with a microkorg but i got the motiff so someone mite tell you diferent but for wot your saying id go with the motif.

So dont you think he should maybe do a lil research and go to these stores and play around with them and try them out seeing which one HE likes and not what some character from an online forum has to say?

are you stupid or something he sed he was going to the store the nxt day but he just wanted some feedback. so your saying that you can work out all the filters and effects on a synth when you just go and try it out in a shop cause i dnt think you could. @Split....you're right.If you walk into a store they're not gonna let you use the filters and all that so to come here and ask for some honest feedback/opinions is not a bad idea.And besides alot of times if a salesperson thinks you're not too gear savvy,they're gonna try to get you to spend more money than you need to.

went to the store on friday, they didn´t have any rack, so i played some time with the micro...was quite impressed and went there the next day to buy it...but now i regret it, because i fear i´ll be to limited at some point, because it just offers those synthish sounds...it´s quite fun, that machine, you can play a long time just switching programs, turning them nobs and so...but - i think it might limit me. fortunately, the store will take it back, but i´ll have to buy something else in return. now that would be the motif rack and a midikeyboard, i think...

yea thats cool i would def get the motif cause the sounds are such good quality but you mite prefer the triton sounds or the fantom sounds. If you want a more sythy rack with other really good sounds on id go with the fantom. but definatly try everything out man all this stuff is so much money if ya cud decide you dnt like it a month later.

as you said, my choice could be triton, fantom or motif...it´s hard the prob is, i think i can´t change back the motif or whatever because they have to order it themselves and i have to buy and keep it, because they normally don´t have it on stock. the motif es rack is the newest one i think, and many people are already using the triton...man it´s damn hard but i think chosing the motif won´t be bad. i´ll go and check some fantom opinions, too...


edit: damn, quite a hard decision, even more if you can´t test´em...so the overall opinion is that "both will get the job done" and "motif has better organic sounds, fantom has better synth sounds", but i suppose they both have a good part of everything. the fantom has compact flash, not bad because i could easily transfer something from my pc to the xr, or from the xr to the 1k; it seems to have a bigger storage than the motif and it has also has a sampler with chop/time stretch, which my 1k doesn´t have, but the latter ain´t that important...
maybe if i told you what kind of music i´m into/wanna do:
- hiphop (using samples, "organic and synthish sounds")
- i´d like to try to do some dancehall, dub
- a little bit of electronic music like house

please don´t get me wrong, i don´t want to be like those "megaproducer cats" out there or get expensive stuff due to lack of talent; i´d like to have some good sounds to create beats from/to feed my mpc and i want to have equip which might be "expensive", but quality costs...and quality will last a long time and serve my needs and make me happy (i have pdx 2K since 2001 and i don´t regret a single deutschmark i spent on em because they are sufficient ´til today and prevented me from stopping DJing [which might have occured with less good gear], but instead delivered me the opportunity to lively up myself ).

so, i´m in this forum because i needed advice which mpc to choose and now i need advice which rack to use because there are quite a few peeps out here who know/own/tested the gear and they can give me information and i´m very glad about that; "each one teach one", when a friend of mine wanted to get some turntables, i told him what i knew and gave him advice what to choose...

but, back to topic

How do all the Mofit users get around the multitimberal timing issues I have read about? The Sound on Sound reviews says the Mofit is almost unusable as a multitimberal synth.
