Another "when digging..." thread. I know I know. Gay right?

Everybody got their tastes.

Try to dig for many different styles of music and types of records. For me what it comes down to is when I need a cool piano what record do I grab or when I need strings or horns. I don't organize my records by what I like to sample off of them but when theres something I want to add to a beat I need to have a record with that sound on there. I guess what I'm sayin is don't just search out loops look for instrument sounds too.

Maybe its not wack but in my experince the blues records ive picked have a really dull and boring sound which is no good from the listening or sampling perpective.

yes u can get some open acoustic gituar sounds but shit sounds boring 2me, if anyone could some suggest some good blues artists to check for?

I know Melvin Van Peebles got some shit but im not sure if he is a typical blues artist.

be carefull that you dont start diggin in your own records everytime you are searching for a sample. Organize!

hmm lemme put something in on this. when i go to the fifty cent piles i stick to looking for a lot of records with a really dark part within anypart of the vinyl. their are usually clean solo instruments or vocals or drums or what have you. but other than that i like to look at covers also anything that looks remotely interesting is worth your fifty cents because you will find something on it . you just got to have the ear as what to chop up and what to filter.

now I would LIKE yalls inputs and all that.. FOR the next step.. aka WHAT do yOU do when YOU have the records and you get home to mpc1000 and a turntable...

for us newbies of course....

aka yall have told us how and what to look for when BUYIN the records..

now do the same thing for us ONCE we have the records...

aka "what" do we and how do we sample (the records yall "taught" us how select throughout this post) huh break it down fellas...

what spec's tryin to say is....

when you buy a record, get it home, listen to it...YOU are going to chose what part you want to sample. How are we supposed to know what your style is and what you'd like to put in your beats?
