MPC with VST's?

Say I'm using Cubase or Protools.... can I use my midi controller (ie. edirol PCR) to play a Vst into the MPC? I don't have any real synths, but some great sounding VST's... What's the best way of doing all this, I haven't seen anyoe talk about it yet...

you can render your vsts as loop and re-chop/play them on the mpc, import them to the mpc or what ever. or just play the vsts via the mpc's sequencer over midi.

i do this, basically use my pc as a sound module.. so long as you have a midi input on the computer you can then have at least 16 simultaneous midi tracks playing at once.

however! it'll be really difficult to use cubase as i'm not sure you can use more than 1 vst at a time (assuming you will be sequencing on the mpc anyway, i don't think cubase can assign specific midi channels to different vst's) - i use a program called v-stack which is made by steinberg, it's basically cubase minus the sequencer - you can still load vst's, plugins etc but it's designed to be really easy to split incoming midi into it's respective channels.. it's dope. i've never used pro tools before so i dunno about that..

of course, you'll still need a way to mix your computer output with your mpc output, i use a little 2 channel dj mixer going into a spare input on my soundcard, but you'll have to figure a way to do it on your set up..

This sounds very interesting..percy, how would you track the v-stack insturments once you sequence them with the mpc?

This is actually something I have been wondering about for months!

Is is V-stack compatible with Logic and/or Protools?

you can use as many vst's as you want in cubase. You just have to set up a midi filter on each one. to filter out all midi signal, except for the one you want.
I don't use cubase any more. But I previously had 16 differnt vsts working with my mpc.
Look in the manual for how to set up midi filters.
