Any solution to the PCD 47B "Write Protect" error?

check page 14, make sure you have your jumpers and termination right.

Success! I got it to work yesterday.

I should mention that I flashed the firmware using a pc running windows98se. (I didn't have any luck upgrading the firmware with my pc running XP) As dcypher mentions, you need to make sure that you have the card reader jumpers set to firmware rewrite mode.

I'll try that, didn't have the manual before.

I'm curious to find out how you updated the firmware. Did you have an old computer lying around with an internal SCSI connection that you could hook it up to or did you use an adapter? I just bought a PCD-47B and it arrived today. Once I get back from work I'll be able to hook it up to see if it works. All this talk though of it not working has me nervous. Hopefully no problems...I'll let you guys know how it goes. And thanks to all for posting problems, solutions, flix...It helps...

I pretty much followed the instructions. They are not that complicated.

My bad...I didn't read your FAQ...I was reading the manual that was posted.

Turns out the label on my device says I got a 47B but its recognized as a 45. Its also version r3.1 which doesn't help because I have no PC with SCSI connections.

Try to return it and get one with version M3.1 or 3.2.

If it recognizes it as a PC45 it could be that the vendor specific jumpers are set to PC45. There is an extra horizontal block of jumpers on the bottom (not the vertical SCSI id block). The first jumper is used to ignore the PCMCIA slot. The second & third are for the vendor specific settings (should not have jumpers on them) & the fourth is for firmware rewrite mode.

Basically, that entire block can be jumper-less during normal use. The only time you need to use a jumper on that block is during the rewrite.

BTW, I did have an old PC with a SCSI card laying around. (I got the old adaptec SCSI card off eBay for dirt cheap.)

I saw what it said in the manual and I had all the jumpers removed and thats when it came up as a 45. I'm pretty sure everything is configured correctly and I'm thinking that a firmware update would solve everything but like I said, I have no computer with SCSI nor do I know anyone around town that has a PC with SCSI so I'm pretty much saying **** it. I got the device on ebay and I might try to track the guy down but its really not worth my time.

On another note...
Don't plug in your floppy cable into the expansion card port. Your screen will just turn on and off, on and off... Everything works fine now though. And thanks to all you peeps for your information and help.

man you should try and link up with 27b and see if he'll do you a favor and flash the drive for you. mpc3000 helped me out big time with my drive.... it's worth a try before you say **** it.
