I just ordered 2 of these, one for the MPC2kxl and one for my PC. I was just looking at this site last week. I hope it works as expected. At least there is a refund if I'm not happy with it..

tell me how it works and such, because I'll definitely go that route over buying an MPC1000 because the 2000xl is a solid machine excluding the storage problems.

Damn, this thing looks like it could be a big help. Lamp...definitely holla about how you feel about the products once you try them out. Peace.

I cancelled my order just a little while ago cause there is a PC store near my house that has a few internal IDE 4 in 1 card readers available also for about the same price. I will go and check it this weekend. This way I can at least see it and check all the connects on it. I asked the tech there if I can bring my MPC in and hook it up and he told me only when the manager is not around (he is a musician himself).
*wink*scratchmybackillscratchyours*hookuptypedeal*
So I will get at him when the manager is not around.

What I am hoping is that it works just fine, I already got a sony digital camera with 2X256 sticks. I want to buy 2 internal drives from him. I'll post up on my findings when I get everything in place and running (knock on wood)

Jeez guys be carefull here...

Just because it uses the same cable don't mean its gonna work..!!!!

For starters it would have to be supported by the Akai OS...all I know is the AKAI natively supports SCSI devices and even then its pretty pick...same for the ZIP drives some of them don't work either probably because some manufacturers use different specs.....

I wouldn't go down this path with mine unless the was an expression from AKAI that it was supported....

Madness is right. I have already tried couple of these IDE flash drives and could never get them to work.

The MPC has limited bios support for ATAPI drives and was really designed for Zip drives. Usually this line in the technical speak gives it away that it may not work with the MPC:
"One of the following Operating Systems: Windows 98/SE, Me, 2000, XP, NT 4.0+SP6"

And the fact that is has DOS driver downloads.

Just find a SCSI card reader and be done with it. I did and have 6-7 of them around here.

"I will try the SCSI thing also"

I would hold off until I can check a couple things. I swapped hard drives with the MPC3000 and the SCSI card reader will not save anymore (reads fine). I suspect it had to do with an odd term power setting on the former drive. I have to hook it back up and check to confirm.
