sorry for the newbie question,

i'm using an mpc 3000 and construct the drum kits/programs i want to use in mpc editior on my pc
i usually fill like 2 or 3 banks with drums/percussion and leave 1 or 2 banks free so i can sample onto the mpc and have pads left over to trigger them with

what do i do when i run out of free pads for samples in that one program?

i can't just delete some of the old samples, i've used them in some sequences already.....do i just have to recreate the drum kit again if i want to build a new sequence on it when all 4 banks are filled?

maybe my problem is i'm using the same drumkit/program for like 3-4 different beats (do you guys usually make a new drumkit for each new beat you work on?)

you could use velocity switching and have 3 different sounds per pad.

Yep.

Seems you are running into the 64 sounds per program limit. One work around this is to copy the program. Remove some of the sounds in that program that may not be needed for a particular passage and add the new sounds in their place. At the appropiate time in the sequences, change programs. This works seemlessly if done correctly. I've used sometimes as many as 8 programs and 100+ sounds in a single song and you would have never known it was happening.

Velocity switching will not help in your case since it doesn't give you access any more sounds (still limited to 64).

okay i think i understand copying the program and removing un-needed sounds, but how do you automatically "switch" programs in the middle of a sequence? i know how to manually switch a program, but can you tell me how to get the mpc to automatically do this in mid-sequence?

thanks for the helpful tips

Place a program change in step edit. The program change number will need to match the program number assigned to each program. This is described inthe manual.
