is there a difference in sound quality between the mpc 3000le & the s3000xl

Yes,

The 3000XL has a different sound, closer to the MPC 2000XL ( sound is too bright for me on the 2kxl ). The MPC 3000 (le) has a bastardized S3000 9 (not XL ) engine which sounds a bit different. ( Fat Boy Slim said he prefers the older S3000 , it problably does sound a bit better as I have found with Akai the older, the better sound ) I have both the s3000xl and the s3200xl ( Little secret...If you do get an S3000xl model get the 3200xl as it has the effects standard as well as the Pro Fliter board as well as XLR ins and outs and much better converters on the 8 output board ( and you can get them for around the same price if you shop around ) ) It sounds good but albeit different than an MPC 3000. The favorite tends to be an MPC 3000 and an s950 combo.

"much better converters on the 8 output board"

The S2800, S3000, CD3000, S2000, S3000XL, S3200XL, MPC3000, MPC2000, MPC2000XL all share the same converters. In fact most share the exact same 8 output expansion.

I am not addressing any possible perception in 'sound', just clearing up any hardware issues.

I was told by an Akai tech that the S3200xl had individual converters for each 8 outputs as opposed to one per stereo pair on the S3000xl . He could be wrong though. I though the 8 output board on the 3000xl looked identcal to the MPC 2000xl. I have been using a 60II as my main sequencer, but I just ordered an MPC 3000 and an S950 so I am excited!!

The 60 is better, don;t let it go until you're sure you prefer that combo to the 60. Trust me.

No way would I let go of my 60!! I have os 2.12 and I like it even though it is supposed to be archaic . I will keep them all muahahahaha !! Is the s950 not as good for drums? I know every MPC I have owned ( 1000 , 2000xl , and 60 ) adds a weird punch to any sound sampled in ti, does the s950 sound more mellow and better suited for bass strings ect :?:

Damn, you really should get the OS upgrade, it makes th 60 a whole other machine, total improvment in everyway. After you mess with 3000 you'll get the idea how great the OS would be with the 60.
