apart from the tap tempo func ie set your loop playing then tap the note repeat button in time, I dont think theres any other way. I prefer setting the loop at the bpm I want and adjusting the pitch of the sample.

I know long time samplists would laugh at me but Its only just really sunk in for me the importance of being ultra precise y trimming the sample, for it all to fit *perfect*. Makes finding the tempo much easier.

finding the bpm can be done by

1. lopping it perfectly in the MPC
2. using software
3. counting it ya self - LONG experience needed.
4. better go with 1 or 2.

You can do it but you've got to use a calculator.

The MPC measures sample length in samples, there are 44,100 samples per second, so divide sample length by 44,100 and you have the sample length in seconds.

Next divide the number of beats in your sample by the length of your sample in seconds to get beats per second. Multiply this by 60 and you have the exact BPM of your sample.

There are heaps of easier ways using software but if you've just got the MPC then this works. You have to edit your sample exactly to the attack at the start of each bar too otherwise it won't work properly.

When I hit the TAP TEMPO button on my 1K, it's different from other TAP TEMPO features I've used. On others, when you hit it consistently it displays the the BPM. On the 1K, when you hit it consistently, it changes constantly and never stays the same. Does any one know why this happens :?:

dont take offense, but your not hitting the tap that accurately as u may think.
bearing in mind, some samples them selves are not perfectly in time anyway, TAP TEMPO is a rough guide to get it close to the rght BPM, which will then lead u to fine tune afterwards so u can get the right tempo using the dial etc.
