Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

I am trying to hook up my MPC to my PC so I can use the MPC's sequenceer and some softsynths on my PC. The problem I am running into seems to me to be that I am causing some sort of loop. I have my PC connected to my MPC via MIDI cables. I am going to use NI Kontakt as the example here, under the MIDI device setup I have the ins and outs of the mu M-Audio Midisport installed and the checkbox for MIDI Thru is checked. Now when I change a track to MIDI on the MPC and select the correct device number (i.e. 1a) I get a repeating loop when I play my keyboard. It seems to me that when I have my devices set up this way that Kontakt is sending MIDI data to the MPC and then the MPC is sending right back, thus causing the note to play again and again. Now I know I can avoid this if I want to uninstall the MIDI IN device in the MIDI setup, record what I want then go back to the MIDI device setup and remove the OUT device and insert the IN device and then playback what I recorded, but this seems like a bit of a hassle. If anyone can read through this rambling post and let me know if I doing something wrong I would appreciate it.

try unchecking the "midi thru" checkbox...

if that doesn't work, to check that the midi loop is happening, just remove the cable that goes back to your mpc's midi in...

so your setup should be:
keyboard midi out -> MPC midi in -> MPC midi out -> PC midi in

as long as you have a track in the MPC selected that is assigned to MIDI 1A, you should be able to play Kontakt from your keyboard

Thanks for the reply Bubble, but what ended up fixing it was turning off "Soft Thru" on the MPC.
