but just imagine if Roger Linn had decided NOT to work with Akai in making the MPC 60....We'd be stuck with the Linn 9000....I just don't schit on progress for the sake of being a purist.....NOBODY knows how well this new unit will do until it has actually been used to say what drumatic is saying.....That's just basic ignorance....Again, I'm not saying it will be better than an SP, but you cannot state things without ever trying....

Unless they use the same DAC's, Filter chips, and power supply, it's not going to sound even remotely similar.. next topic.

Was it even mentioned that thier intentions was to sound like the SP???? Cmon man, give up the jomo purists schit...It's annoying....If you're feeling the SP, cool, get it...I would love to have one, but don't knock what someone else is making because you feel it ain't up to par with that 90s sound.....

maybe they should use the exact configuration....the same exact covering case, the same exact buttons, the same exact lettering....

peep the sig, keep it moving.....

how many times do we have to go over this topic....to each his own. Some see fit to rock 12bits while others are more apt to try the new sh*t...

The machinedrum has been out for years. Adding sampling to it doesn't change the interface or how it works as a sequencer, which isn;t bad at all, but much different than the MPC, much less idiotproof, more fiddly, you really gotta geek out to get the most of it. I am not selling it short, I just know what it is, it is an added feature to an existing drum machine, more like the Jomox Xbase stuff than MPC's or SP's in philosophy and useage.

An attempt to get more out of an existing product, but whatever. If it was built from the ground up as a sampler, it might be really dope, but it's just an add on to get more sales on a product that had pretty much run its course. Do you know how much machine drum's cost?

The linn 9000 is dope as hell. I'm seriously thinking of keepin the one I got here. Then I just need a 1200 and a 440 and I'll have 12 bit unity ;)

Man SP's are ok but please man, I rarely use mines. Not because it's old but because it's a pain to use. It's NOT user friendly and neither was the MPC-60 I use to have. (in my opinion) The only piece of equipment that is still in my main setup is my ASR-10. (made way before it's time) Everything else I either use for pre-pre-production or it's a collectors item in my equipment room. No disrespect to any of my older equipment, because thats what I learned on, but it's 2005 not 1985, alot of things have changed, I'm not in grade school living with my parents and music is alot different (I do more than just hiphop). But there will always be a piece of equipment someone is closer to than any other piece but if someone's piece is NOT your favorite doesn't mean their piece is inferior to yours...

But thanks for minding my business Tic. You want me to write you next week when I get more time on a 1200? :?

No need to be snooty, elm. Im on your side, remember?

I just thought you had never used one, I stand corrected. Wasnt attempting to call you out on anything.

We should both agree to go suck on some ice cubes. Deal?

My response was to that comment Boogie. It ain't about purist mentality, or about me thinking one sampler is better then another. I was simply pointing out why this new drum machine would never sound like an SP rather Drumat!c used one or not.

As for people saying shit like, "it's 2005, not 1985". Then you probably feel that R&B today is just as fresh today as it was in 1971? Why dig for wax? All those old groups use outdated gear.. (20x better in quality and sound in fact, but if it's not new, it's not dope and played out right?)

Facts are facts though, thiers a reason the late 80's and early 90's are always gonna be considered as the golden era of Hip-Hop. Just like the late 60's will be considered the golden era of rock. If you don't want to accept that, thats you.

I'm sorry did you just say the User interface on an SP1200 wasn't designed for the moron in mind? I beg to differ....i'm a total moron and I can work my way inside and out of the SP.....same goes for MPC-60. You guys really need to think before you make unintelligible remarks such as these.....

That Price is riddiculous

I doubt it'll sound anywhere near an SP but it definitely looks cool. I'll bet that it sounds hella thin compared to the SP. It just looks too "digital" to me. The SP had that warm analog sound.
Elmaco I feel you man. Watching my cousin work with his SP had me itching man. I swear I felt like a crack head...."My Precious!"

YEah IQ, I feel you.

There's nothing difficult about the Sp's, the Machine drum will lose a lot of cats on this board, I'm sure it will sound fat, 12 bit is not a sound, it's a bit rate, it can sound very different from machine to machine, and of course how you sample into it brings out different qualities. Nothing ill sound like an SP, but I'm sure the Machine drum will sound really ill, I just think the interface won;t be for the MPC crowd, Like Drumatic said, the SP and MPC are really easy to use, complete dumbasses think they are producers as soon as they get one. the machine drum will be different, and the price tag reflects that too, but I am sure the 12 bit sampler will sound better than most 16 bit samplers, and hopefully it will start a trend where people might release more 12 bit stuff, like how people still make new analog gear.
