Hmmm, looks pretty decent.
I'll seriously consider scoring one due to the size.
I just flew overseas with my MPC, which made me nervous because I had to check it in with the luggage because it was too big. The airlines just throw sh!t around (it was in a flight case though.)
The MPC1000 looks like it might be small enough to put in a backpack or laptop bag, which means it's a 'carry on' on an airplane.

MPC-Tutor Prediction...

Wait 3 or 4 months and it will be half the price.

No way. The price of MPC's has been stable for a long time. You will never get a 50% reduction on a new model MPC. Demand is going to be high for it. Check around the web. There are customers ready to buy right now. Prices are never lowered when demand is high or stable. Low demand causes low prices.

Does anyone know for sure if the MPC1000 display has WAVEFORM EDITING???
That's a deal breaker for me.

The difference is that this MPC is aimed at the 'Groovebox' market and not the pro/semi-pro market. Most Grooveboxes drop in price quite dramatically after initial release.

There are always people ready to buy a product upon release - yet experience shows that not only will the price drop at least 10% within the first week or so, but the new release is almost certainly bug ridden and missing loads of advertised features - this is why it's always a good idea to have a little patience - or did we all forget about the MPC4000? :P

You are confusing different issues here.

First, the MPC1000 market (by your definition, not AKAI's definition) isn't going to change the costs of production and delivery. A 50% hit in a few months means the vendor would be either selling at cost or at a loss due to poor consumption by their intended market.

Second, the MPC1000 is NOT a groovebox. So don't compare it with one. Apples and oranges cost about the same but they have different consumers.

Third, don't even try to compare the unreleased, $900 MPC1000 with the much more expensive and complex MPC4000. By its high price alone the MPC4000 has less buyers. How many people can afford $3,000+ (and more when it was first introduced) for an MPC4000? When we consider the MPC4000 bugs, the unfinished OS, and other problems there is clearly a world of difference between these two models.

Fourth, when the MPC4000 was introduced economic conditions were worse then they are now, which is not to say they are spectacular at this time. Or did we all forget the recession and bear market that has thrown a few million people out of work?

Fifth, forget the comparison with pros and amateurs. There are plenty of Hip Hop bedroom amateurs with MPC60 and MPC3000 models that have not one chance in a million of getting a recording contract or having a hit record. Yet even they have disposable income. You also ignored the pros and semi-pros that want a smaller model and are looking at the MPC1000 for something lightweight.

Lastly, if you think the price of the MPC1000 is going to drop 10% in the first week--though it's being introduced near Christmas--and 50% a few months later, then bro, pass me whatever you're smoking because you must have a rock solid connection to the mid-level dealer in your 'hood. :P

No way, not half. It might go down $100 or so. It's priced to sell already. Nothing in the MPC line has ever dropped that much.

That demo was pretty weak if you ask me. The MPC looks like it could be a good one but damn Akai, put some elbow grease into the promotions. Take a note from Korg and Yamaha.

Yeah, it does.

Roland did the same thing with the MV-8000 at the summer NAMM. The AKAI demo was weak alright. David Whittle explained afterward that he had no time to prepare. They just showed up with the camera and told him to demo the unit. The problem is that you don't get to see much happening in the demo. It's just David talking about the MPC1000.

I think some of ya'll are drinking a little to much haterade. You guys paid big money for the 2000 xl and are afraid that this is going to be a better product at a lower price. I think there is no arguing that the fact it has some strong benifits. It has a usb and ability to transfer stuff from the computer to the mpc 1000 . I can't wait. I have a studio editor on my pc, where I edit and add effects to my samples. I can shoot these directly to my mpc 1000 then build a beat transfer it back to my computer then burn it to a disk.

The main thing that concerns me is the fact that Program Params are not transferred - What? So I have a song that uses around 200 pads, half of which feature tuning, filter and attack settings - do I have to re-program all these again, one-by-one (plus the fact that some parameters are not available in the MPC1000, like velocity controlled attack and decay)?

Also the very strange decision to not support MPC SND format files is ludicrous.

It's not hating BTW - I'm trying to fairly assess this new product. It's clear that Akai are wanting to move away from using propriatory formats like SND and Akai S1000, and that's because the new wave of home-based music producers all use computers and WAV files.

I really think this product is aimed at new users, rather than existing MPC owners - otherwise they would have put a lot more effort into ensuring you could transfer your existing projects with ease. The main feature that I do like about it is the easy hook up to your computer - very nice and something I would use quite a bit, but I really could not bear the thought of having to reprogram all my pads in order to transfer my existing songs into it!
