RE: MIDI Keyboard Controller vs. MPC1000

i love music... i listen to music while i'm on the computer, in the shower, driving, while i'm eating, and especially while i'm snowboarding... i love snowboarding... but the season only lasts so long... i thought to myself, "i need a new hobby"... after months of constant thinking and daydreaming at work, i finally was enlightened...

"i'm gonna make beats" i said to myself... and plus, i don't think the fact that i've been playing the drums, piano and sax since i was a kid would hurt either... so i do my research... i know it's gonna be a home-based studio, so first thing's first i need a new computer... of course, i went through the whole "PC vs MAC" debate... and in addition to that, i also went through the "Reason vs. FL Studio" topic... to tell you the truth, i didn't pay too much attention to what other people said, i just stuck to what i was more comfortable with...

now on the subject of this post; MIDI Keyboard Controller vs. MPC1000... first thing i did was find out the prices for both... i was lookin' at the M-Audio 37-key ozonic midi keyboard controller and the mpc1000... the m-audio came up to approx $700 CAN, the MPC1k approx $1200 CAN... so i tried the keyboard controller first... tried it for a month... overall i wasn't too impressed... i guess the fact that i've got a bit of a 'drummer' in me, pushes me more towards the pads... so i return the controller in exchange for the MPC1k and pay the remaining balance... and honestly [keep in mind i'm just a newbie] it only took me about 15 mins or so after i opened the box to fall in love with this thing... i'm SO looking forward to locking myself in a room with my MPC1k and just messin' wit some beats... now when the snowboarding season is done, i still have a method of workin' on my 'spaceship'... anyway, that's my story... you never know, maybe you relate to this... peace...

Meaning, once it's put out there in public, it's open for discussion.

I didn't see any questions in the whole paragraph, unless my brain is having an off day (that might be the case though).

J-Villa is a happy beatmaker now so that's the real right there.

J, read the manual and push the same buttons you read about, something just aint right or is not clear in the book, let us know and maybe we can all work something out for you.

I'm pretty new to the MPC world, and I just found this out today...

You can hook up to 2 footswitches up to the MPC1000, and assign them to trigger any certain pads.

I just thought I'd mention that since you're a drummer, you might enjoy playing the pads with your hands and still use both of your feet for 2 other sounds when u wanna get funky.

Pretty cool, huh?

the footswiitch idea is very cool. i use it a lot. unfortunately, though, we are unable to trigger Note Repeat using the footswitches. just keep that in mind - i didn't know we couldnt

thanks yall... i'm lovin' my 1k, it's just perfect for me and what i want to do for now... oh, and i got a next question hopefully someone can help me out... i wanted to know the process to update the OS on my 1k... this is what i'm assumin' is the process, pls tell me if i'm wrong.. i'm thinking:

1) download the updated OS file
2) copy to CF card
3) load file from CF -> 1K

is this right? do i have to hold a certain key down while i boot up the 1K? thanks for any feedback yall...

I'm pretty sure instructions for that can be downloaded when you go and download the actual OS.

about the note repeat not working with footswitches , is this hardwired in the mpc or could a OS update add this feature ?
