Find a producer that use this and listen to his or her sound to see if you like it. I got the Mpc because the producers i like has one. Maybe this will work for you. I hear that once you use the MP the feel of it spoils you...

It doesn't hook up to a monitor by itself. It works as a hardware surface for some pattern based sequencing software called P606 by Cakewalk. I don't think you can do everything you can do from the hardware interface in the software and vice versa.

It's not really like an MPC. It's more of an audio phrase sampler/sequencer (like it's predecessor the SP808) rather than a MIDI/drum hit sampler/sequencer. So I wouldn't consider it as a replacement for an MPC.

Compared to an MPC it's got some big limitations; only 4 track sequencer and 4xstereo voice or 8xmono voice polyphony for instance. Also if those pads are anything like the SP808s they're not a patch on the MPCs. On the other hand it's got some cool Roland COSM effects, BPM syncing stuff and the whole software thing (PC only tho afaik). Iirc it also doubles as a USB MIDI and audio interface for general PC audio duties.

It may well be a cool box (the SP808 was) but it's not an "MPC-a-like".
