how to sample?

allo ive got a MPC 2000 turntables and a Dj mixer, me an my m8 have been trying to figure out how to sample on it for ages now and weve read he bullshit manual but it were still totaly confused. Is there any1 who could break it down real quick? ive got everything needed i just cant figure out the sampler

ok here you go

youre gonna need some dual rca to 1/4 cables. plug in the 1/4 side of the cables into "record in" at the back of the mpc. and plug the rca side into the turntable.

now turn on your MP and let it boot up. once it boots up locate SHIFT and hold it and press the number 4(it has SAMPLE under it).

btw any time you wanna perform any of the actions shown under each number do the shift-- then number thing.

you should always do samples in stereo. (aleast i do)

use your cursor to move to MODE then use the jog wheel and locate stereo.

the use the cursor and go to TIME and use the jog wheel to select how much of the sample you want to record.

in other words if you want to record 10 seconds of a sample then select 10 seconds. and so on.

i never bother the threshold.

next play your record. and once the part you want to sample arives hit F6/RECORD and once it has recorded a screen will appear asking if want to
play the sample, keep the sample or retry

select keep the sample and assign it to a pad. just press the pad you want to assign the sample to and select keep.

if you have the 8 output board in your MP you can assign your sounds to those outs and route them to your mixer.

allo, i just tried doin that and it didnt work. I dont think ive got everything plugged in right because when i press "Record" it doesnt start it says "Waiting for input signal..." and i have to press "Start" and nothing plays. everything else on the screen says:
Input: Anolog Mode: Stereo Monitor: On
Threshhold: -20 Time: 3.0s Pre-rec: 10.ms
anything im doing wrong?
P.S my turntables hant got anywere the RCA bit wud plug in so i just plugged them into my shitty DJ mixer maybe this cube the problem

Not really, but, ok.

yeah i know lamp. i meant to edit to take it out. but i was going to explain it better but since this dude is a newbie i didnt want to confuse him.

MF this look like a threshold problem. so you may have to turn up the REC GAIN (its the red knob below the volume knob) so that the RECORDING will start.

or you can just lower the threshold.

bottom line is the MPC has to recognize the signal source(your turntable). so make sure you adjust the threshold or the REC GAIN.

if this doesnt work then it may be the way it hookd up.

listen to the guy... you need a preamp to amplify the vinyl signal. a dj mixer should do the trick. also double check your connections to make sure everything is plugged in where it's supposed to be.

i dont use a preamp.

i run my rcas right from my turntable straight to my MPC.

works fine!

depends on what type of turntables u got

MF what kind of turntables you got

give us some more info about how the TT are hooked up with the mixer and MPC.

The TT you are using might have a preamp in it already, that's why it works that way. Back in the day that would not have worked. Some nwere TT's have preamps on the analog outs. Some don't, these are the ones that need the preamp (mixer maybe) between it and the MPC.
