looks like Phillystress has b!tched out.
I would post the PM he sent me, but I dont know if thats kosher.
How is that for a metaphor for old school vs new school? Some people are SOOO new school that they refuse to even battle. (no disrespect to the new school progressives, only to those who forget their roots).

Doc Martin and some other kats may think that beat battles are irrelevant but gettin props and holding down your rep as a form or honor is golden by me.

If you have a PC, you definitely have Windows sound Recorder.
You also have records, turntable, and several samplers.
Record beat from MPC into Windows Sound Recorder. Adapter cord costs $2 at Radio Shack.
Im not calling you out on the sound quality of your recording, so dont use that as an excuse not to post something.
You have records, a turntable, a sampler, a recording medium, and a means of connecting to the internet to post the results. Sounds to me like "your little setup" has more than enough to make and post a beat.
Stop making excuses.

That's because.. stereotypically speaking.. again.. the white man always takes over things and exploits. He did it to many lands and countries and cultures.. and has his foot in hip hop

While I agree with the white man as oppressing many cultures, hip hop is skill-based. you cant be "the best" BBoy by beating someone up or putting a gun in their face.
Its skill. If a whiteboy practiced at BBoying, and got good enough to win battles (judged by black dudes, might I add) how is that using force to oppress?
Philly---lets put color aside and let a jury of our multi-racial peers judge based on nothing but SKILL alone. If you win, this (half)white boy will be the first to say you won and congratulate you.

All very true. It is a black music. No one is taking away from that. Lets not get into the side discussion of whites taking over forms of music or culture. The very reason hip hop was created was to create a skill-based meritocracy, where regardless of color, skill decides who wins. Afrika Bambaataa himself said "white, black, asian, green, red ---who cares. Who has more skill?"
And yes, they are the best in the WORLD, as evidenced by winning BATTLES (the basis of hip hop) in NYC, Chicago, Detroit, Philly and then in worldwide battles. In my opinion, "best" will always be subjective, but winning battles is the closest youre going to get when it comes to claiming a title, wouldnt you say?
the funny thing is, these BBoy battles are judged by Rocksteady Crew (black and puerto rican), the popping battles are judged by The Electric Boogaloos (black and puerto rican), the DJ Battles are judged by, among others, Grandmixer DXT, GrandWizard Theodore, Steve D (all black), so what you're saying reflects a complete ignorance of what real hip hop is about---Skill transcends all boundaries, even (and especially) color.

So youre trying to start a label and a website, and you have no audio inputs, no recording medium, and a dial-up connection?
Good luck, homie.
Philly, let me be the first to say that...
YOU.

SUCKER.
If you wanted to post a beat, you could. You are full of sh!t. You were called out in battle. You refuse to even compete. That's worse than losing.

Back in the day people tried to say Benny Goodman was the greatest Jazz musician EVER!!! They asked most of the Jazz greats of that time who is the greatest (included Black judges also) and they came up with Goodman. We all know that simply wasn't the truth. Miles, Coltrane, Basie, Dexter Gordon, Monk were ALL miles ahead of most, let alone white musicians. To now most Jazz musicians are white, so does that mean their the greatest now???

that is the subjective "Best". I agree that Monk, coltrane, Davis were better.
But.....if the two were placed in a BATTLE situation, with witnesses and judges, and asked to BATTLE, we would find out who was the "Best", now couldnt we?
Were talking technical skill as well as creativity. Yes, one may be more creative than the other, but in the end it boils down to SKILL.
If you placed any of these men in the same room with Goodman, and asked them to play the same piece on the same instrument, the fact is that they would WRECK him.
THAT is a battle.
Feel me?
