think u can make a dope beat with just a 2 second sampler and thats it? true cause it's not about the gear in most casses. ikno dudes who wanna a triton, motiff, an mpc 4000 and all kinds of other sh!t when they think they need it and neva made a beat. but to be honest i wasnt confortable with sh!t before i got an mpc. i couldnt really do what i wanted with anything else.

Well... theres some heads on here who would argue against that.....

its about finding what is good for YOU... its not so much about the equipment as it is the right interface that YOU can flow with... for me, the simpler the better, to an extent of course... finding the fine line between a simple and cohesive user interface, and enough functional depth to have the abilities to do what you want to do is what its all about IMO... some people are limited by older equipment, some do not need all the extra functions...

also, i think that some of the older equipment had a lot more thought put into it as a MUSICAL INSTRUMENT in contrast to some of todays gear which seems that more thought went into its purpose as a RETAIL COMMODITY(selling points/features, cost reduction, and basicly quantity over quality) than as an MUSICAL INSTRUMENT with an INTUITIVE INTERFACE... think about it, a lot of the newer HARDWARE, chit even SOFTWARE for that matter, are full of bugs when they first drop... it takes a long time to work out these bugs and get the product up and running the way it was MARKETED to work(MPC4K anyone?), but the product is released anyway... even the MPC60 wasnt perfect when it came out, hence the OS updates which continued for what, 10 years or so? i dont know about anyone else but, id rather wait and get some older model equipment at a discounted price, after they have worked out all the bugs and stuff and get the thing running perfectly as it should...


but in the end, when buying equipment, YOU MUST DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH AND FIND WHAT FITS YOU, not anyone elses idea of what is dope, you must find what fits YOU and YOUR MUSICAL IDEAS, and what will give you a chance to convey those ideas in an ENJOYABLE PROCESS...


bottom line: RESEARCH RESEARCH RESEARCH BEFORE YOU COMMIT TO ANY PIECE OF EQUIPMENT!!!

Well where would madlib be without records? he'd still be good but no where near as big as he is now, and records are part of your gear anyhow.

It is the craftsman and his tools relationship that makes the master, hip hop guys always say they can use whatever bcause they can't play shyt and just want something with 999 presets and strut around like they just made something revolutionary.
