i just picked up my 2000xl about a week ago.. .. and i have a small question...

why is it that I can only load up 10 seconds of samples or 20 seconds if it is in mono..

is there a way around it without opening up my akai and inserting ram cards ?

if not, then what ram cards should i buy? a direct link would help...

yes, you can put i think up to 32 meg of ram in it. as far as i know it's something you can do yourself - there is a tutorial here somewhere that tells you, or do a search!

no there isn't a tute, but do a surf, should be pretty easy to put them in.

the 32 MB is very essential unless you're one of those heads who like doing things the hard way...it isnt hard to install and it takes any current 8/16/32 mb SDRAM chip, mane.....I say two 16's are better since the mPC can be a bit finnicky about single 32's.....Just remember to ground yourself(I used a metal panel from an old PC case to stand on while putting in the chips)......

Specific details about what RAM to buy are in the 2kxl manual. Download the manual and it will tell you exactly.

You just wakin' up cheese? I know you know what's up with the 2000xl's so I'm guessin you just rolled out of bed or your faded.

Apostrophe, the 2000xl takes 72pin simms, here's a link for the ram you need. This is one of the cheapest places I've found. I agree with what Swissmaster said about getting two 16mb chips instead of one 32mb chip.

You can also go to where you purchased your MPC to see if they sell accesories for the MPC there such as: Ram, 8-outputs, and Effects Board. If they dont have any accesories onhand for you, they should be able to order them for you, but that may be a bit pricey. Ill reccomend doing a search first, you should be able to find what you need at a lower price....peace

I did that when I first got my MPC and they tried to sell me SPECIAL MPC ONLY ram. I look at the mem sticks and I was like this is regular 72pin ram. So I went out and got the same RAM that it stated in the book for a way cheaper price. Peoples at the music stores try to get over on you sometimes, watchout for that..

"I agree with what Swissmaster said about getting two 16mb chips instead of one 32mb chip"

I don't and do not know how that got started. I find more bad sets of 2 x 16's than single 32's. I've put single 32's in dozens of MPC's without problem.
