Hmmmmm, decisions, decisions......

Ok, I know I may get slated for this but gotta ask. I use a 2000xl and have been so for the past 3months and really enjoy it, but Im encountering some probs. Firstly, the whole scsi data transfer thing is a nightmare, it s just too awkward to transfer data across. Secondly, I like using the low pass filter thats there, but would love a high pass filter - am thinking of getting the MFC42, but havent read many reviews about it. Also, the effects chip. Some say its really good but others say its whack beyond belief. This left me debating whether to trade in the 2000xl for a 1000.

Reasons for the 1000:

1- 3 filters for me to play with
2 - Built-in effects. Not sure how good they are, but something is better than nothing
3 - USB connectivity. This speaks for itself really, easy to transfer data

Reasons for sticking with the 2000xl

1 - Zoning. The 1000 does not have this feature and I have grown to love it a great deal
2 - Functions as more of stand-alone piece. The 1000 seems to be for peeps who are really into computers. Im into computers a bit but Im an analog cat
3 - The MFC 42. Even though I havent heard much about this, the fact that Id be able to fiddle the knobs myself sounds really exciting

Kinda indifferent as to what to do so any comments, suggestions whatever would be greatly appreciated

the MFC42 is a realy nice filter for its money, way better than the filter in a 1k.

PS: an MPC isnt 'analog'

p.s., the 1k's fx stink. the compression and eq sound like butt. i guess it's nice tha tthey are there, but i never used em cuz they sounded so bad.

i love the eb16, always have. been using it for a long time, first in an s3000xl and now in a 2000xl.

we all want our cake and eat it too....u could possibly just save up some cheese and get the 1k.... i mean, im thinking about purchasing it for the large memory and Program usage at one time, i can EQ and any other kinda effects i need in my Recording system....but i guess most peeps just like to do the whole beat and record effects and all in the MPC

one other thing

the 1k's filters (as opposed to the EQ in the fx section) as really handy and do sound pretty good. i used them all the time, esp. the HP filter. it's great for trimming out muddy stuff.

Note MFC42 can be used with any sampler, it can just be attached to 2000 to seem like one unit.

ps. 2000 not having high pass filter sucks!

There is a trick for doing a high pass filter on the 2k, I'm sure you can find it doing a search. Can really come in handy when you need it.

Hm, not sure where I've seen it before, but have used it (and will have to again when I get home). Definately not a true highpass filter, but a trick to emulate one which makes sense when you think about it. Basically you need an inverted copy of any sample (you can do this in pretty much any audio editing program). Then set them up so they are both triggered at the same time from one pad. If done correctly, you should hear silence as they cancel each other out. Then you can alter the filter on only one sample and it will now do the exact opposite and bring the highs in from nothing (instead of cutting them out to nothing).

Still better off using a dedicated filter, but of course your samples will sound better using a dedicated (analog) low pass too, so more of a good trick for when you need it without any outboard effects.
