Anyone know how to do that quick double kick that alot of hip hop producers use? It's like a whole kick followed by a quick half-a-kick. Hard to explain but I'm sure most of you know what I'm talking about. Thanks alot for any help on this subject.

Use a digital delay...or the delay in your MPC 4K...if you want it to "chop off" add a noise gate....viola~!

all you gotta do is turn full level off and double tap the pad

or

use two different kicks. the first half kick should be a softer kick. then then second one should be the harder kick...

when you layer the kick with another it also helps fatten up the kick. i do that a lot especially when i got that double kick thing goin on....

program a kick normally in the sequence.

Program a second kick (can be the same kick sample, but put it on a different track to make things easier)

Apply heavy swing to the second kick.

Play it back and listen to it.

This is what I do 99.9% of the time......

Niceweis, what is a track that has the double kick you're talking about ?

I thought I knew what you meant but I wouldn't of thought you would get that sound using 16 levels (velocity) .

Velocity plays a very big part in programming (drums).

Yea...they got it, it's like the a half kick, then a whole one right after it. with the 16 levels I just use a softer sounding one, then a louder one right after, werks fine for me. Thanks y'all

Oh okay . When I do that I just use the same sound, without any change in velocity, swing or any of that (with the pad set to MONO) .
I never thought about using velocity for this . I want to see what difference it makes now ...

Thanks

Try step programing in 32nd notes, and put a ghost type kick in a little before the one.
Or you could try a different kick sample from the same kit.

Is this the kind of stuff you're talking about?

Or are you layering different Kicks?
