I recently bought an akai 2000xl, and I am having a major problem. I put the floppy in the akai drive and it is giving me the ( ???? ) asking me to format the disk to the MPC. but I have the sounds on the disk and if I formatt the sounds will be lost; So I got on my comp and saved the files there and then formatted the disk in the MPC, but now the problem is that when I go to put the sounds back on the disk, my computer is telling me I have to formatt the disk to the computer. and then the MPC gives me (????) again... im losing my mind  ... I have contacted akai pro and they said they would look into it for me and call me back but who knows how long that will be or even if they call me back. PLEASE HELP thanks.......................

ahhh, mane...get yourself a zip drive for your MPC(preferably an atapi/ide internal one) and a usb or f/w for your comp and you should be good to go...I wouldnt even try to invest any more time, energy or expense on that there floppy drive mane....

Sounds like you possibly had your floppy formatted fat32 when the MPC couldn't read it.

Format it for fat16 and use 8 character filenames if you want your MPC to read the floppy.

If you format with MPC your computer cannot read the disk at all, period.

Then again like Swiss said you can just get a ZIPdisk and be done with the floppy, but you will still have to do the format thing I stated above. I use my ZIPdrive exactly how you are trying to use yours and I have no problems with my ZIP. I'm guessing Swiss does also and has no probs with his.
