I chop majority of my samples, but only after time stretching them to the tempo of my beat. It makes a much smoother transition between samples.

Unless you want a real choppy sound, then chop it with out timestretching.

I do that too. I usually come up with an ill 4 bar drum loop then I take a 4 bar loop out of the song and timestretch it to loop perfectly with my drum loop. Then I chop that b*tch up and rearrange it over the drums, then add a sick bassline.
Simple :D

time stretching, well if you ask kanya west about time stretching he would say ...

if your style of making beats does not include time stretching do not put it down because time stretching is a proven comodity, just ask kanya west.

in life you get what you pay for and i think 2000xl cost more than 1000. why do you think that is?

one model was made in 2004 as opposed to the 90s. i remember back in the day it cost something like 200 dollars to upgrade your ram 56 megabytes. i could get a couple gigs worth of ram for that price today.

if you're gonna talk about getting what you pay for you need to analyze the trends in electronics consumption.

mpc1k with laptop beats mpc2000 for my style of production anyday. however, i have an extensive knowledge of computer software. plenty of wannabe producers want to never touch a computer - something i understand if you don't have the backround. however, if there's any time to start learning, it's now.

I have to say that each machine has its strengths and weaknesses and is suitable for different types of users...One is not better than the other...and it is not necessary to learn a computer background in music...If that is the case, we should just dispose of all actual instruments...

it is not necessary for a computer background in music...If that is the case, we should just dispose of all actual instruments...

^ ^ this is vestigial nonsense from the old days. a computer background is essential for home producers both economically speaking and technologically speaking. not everyone can afford massive studios, but anyone can bootleg acid pro 5.0 from the internet.

oh, wait, i'm wrong - only the computer savvy can.

bvllschit....I don't use my computer for making any of my beats...again, it is NOT necessary....I can do everything on my hardware that anyone can do on software...I'm not saying either is better, I'm just pointing out that it isn't necessary to have a computer in your setup...If you believe it is, I dare you to prove why a computer is a must have for production....and I don't want to hear no bvllschit about "what do you think is inside your MPC".....I'm talking about an actual tower computer.....so don't get smartazz with your reply.....so, again....prove that is is absolutely necessary to have a HOME COMPUTER in your rig....

I'm of the opinion that when I make something good, I'm gonna get a professional engineer in a professional studio to master/mix it for me. Therefore I dont need my computer. If youre trying to do EVERYTHING (a very recent phenomenon) yeah a pc would help. But if they ever get their copy-protection actually workin, poor kids will be ****.

Why do people care what other people do!?

I think it's good to combine both...chop and loop... :D

Choosing one over the other doesn't make a difference. One guy can find the craziest loop and loop it for the whole song without any change-ups or without layering anything at all. Then, another guy can find the same loop and get creative (i.e. he might chop the loop to add a change-up)... :D

BOTTOM LINE: Chopping is more creative [Primo], but you can't hate on people just because they loop or use time-stretch! [Madlib]
