new Quasimoto album, sampled wax from Brazil???

I heard some sh*t about madlib going to brazil, and coppin mad wax. supposedly a big chunk of the new quas album uses these Brazilian samples. Anybody know anything about this?

nah, theres not alot of brazilian shit on the album. but it is true that madlib did spend time in brazil during the making of madvillain and copped mad wax..meaning rare and obscure shit, not just music by brazilian artists. like all types of obscure albums he found in brazil, but the artists aren't necesarrily brazilian, ya dig? i read that interview too , the one where he talks about 2 crates being stolen right? word. most of the samples on lord quas are disco, a couple bollywood joints, and some random library loops as well

i sample brazillian music quite a bit...

matter of fact...brazil, spain, and mexico are where most of my hottest samples come from...

im just saying, i work with some Portuguese Brazilians, and they cool as flowers, even though i cant understand too much of what they saying.

To each his own......I find the new Quas anything but disappointing.
I would have been disappointed if the record sounded standard like something I'd heard before, or if it wasn't challenging or original.

As far as the rhyming goes....I'm easy to please these days. Just give me something where they're not rhyming about rims, diamonds, and thugs all day, and I'm basically satisfied. A little originality goes a long way.

imo,the beats don't even settle in and groove....just as it gets started, it starts changing to some other schit....Theres a few tracks I like, but overall, I was dissapointed...

I'm with itchyvinyl on this one. It's out there but thats what the game needs right now. Rims and Diamonds have been worked.

On the Beat side -the mainstream media has called DJ Shadow the Hendrix of the Sampler. Sticking with that train of thought then it's my opinion Madlib is the Frank Zappa. It's layered its deep and it keeps you ears and mind on point. You don't know where it's gonna bring you next. In the Year of the Boom-bap-boom-boom-bap it's a welcome change.

If more albums that push the rules (like this one) don't come out. Hip Hop is gonna put a bullet in its own head.
