at the time i was like "eh no worries, it's probably that the demos are using dark samples"

NOPE! haha

you know i could swear i even posted something about it way back then. this was a long time ago though, like arounf the xmas that the 1k came out

16khz and up? What are you? A dog or something?

i can hear higher than that too. you just have to know what to listen for - you can probably hear it too.

maybe not though...my dad doesnt hear that stuff at all. one time i tried showing him what the highest frequencies sound like. i CRANKED a test tone that was all the way up there in pitch. it was so loud it was hurting my ears. he was all like "i dont hear anything!"

it's not the same kind of sound as a regular note like from the middle of the piano. it's almost like you use your tongue or the skin on your ears to hear it. it's a really strange sensation.

i had a teacher in college with perfect pitch - not only could this guy hear up there but he could tell you what note it was! he was nuts though, more musical skills than anyone else ive ever met in my life. very funky dude too

tiger vomitt wrote:for the people WHO INTIMATELY KNOW BOTH THE 1K AND THE 2KXL, do you also find the sound quality of the 1k to be kind of dark?

so what do you think

I did some programming for a project on my new MPC1000. The engineer on the project is pretty well known and respected. His studio includes an MPC 2000 & S5000 for sampling and sequencing. We opted to use my MPC1000 instead of trying to transfer the sequences.

On patching the MPC1000 into the console (using all 6 analog outs) and playing back some of the programming, he immediately began chacking the EQ and what not...

He then turns to me and says "Are these drum samples intentionally Dark?"

The sounds in question were from the "Kit of the Week" sets (old school drum machines such as 808, Oberheim etc...), some samples I made of my Sidstation (using Protools) and some live drum hits lifted from a Protools back-up of the tapes from a session at the Shed in NYC (24 track Studer, Neve console).

He used EQ on his console and Sound Replacer (protools drum replacment plug-in) to get the "air" he desired. All was good in the end. I just thought I would share the experience as I recalled the topic.

aaahhhhhhahahahahahahaha that's awesome

kinda glad someone else heard it at least

and yeah, i had the same experience of it being really pretty good once i decided to eq it (in my case it was was/is usually a pultec plugin from the UAD card)

i noticed -- never described it as dark but - something

never thought of it as bad either- not reeally bad -

and anyway -- if i run it through the exciter in my dp/4 it makes me forget all about where the sounds came from

but i certainly notice the charicter of the 1000 when i load my samples into it

Well most people without hearing damage can hear up to 20kHz m8
